Job Description
The Communications Lead for the ClimateLens project at Climate Resilient Communities is a volunteer role requiring 4–6 hours per week. The position focuses on shaping the project's public presence by developing content strategies, engaging storytelling, and maintaining a consistent brand voice across social media. About Climate Resilient Communities
Climate Resilient Communities (CRC) is a volunteer-run not-for-profit operating under Transition
Toronto. We work at the intersection of community, data & AI, and climate change to strengthen
communities' capacity to bounce forward from climate impacts. Our mission is to help community
groups effectively advocate for their needs and find solutions to environmental, social, and
economic challenges exacerbated by the changing climate.

About the Project
ClimateLens is an evolving initiative at the intersection of climate change, data, and mental health.
The project is currently transitioning from a research-focused mandate toward active advocacy —
specifically around the mental health impacts of climate change on individuals and communities.
Our MVP roadmap reflects this evolution:
• MVP 1 (completed) — Understanding the the topics discussed about climate change on
social media and the climate emotions detected within those conversations
• MVP 2 (in progress) — Understanding the connections between topics discussed about
climate change on social media and the climate emotions detected within those
conversations, and how these evolve dynamically over time
• MVP 3 — Building a taxonomy of climate anxiety: mapping, categorizing, and surfacing the
emotional landscape of how people experience climate-related distress
This shift toward advocacy means ClimateLens is increasingly focused on translating data insights
into real-world impact — informing mental health support systems, community conversations, and
policy discussions around climate grief and anxiety. The Technical Project Co-lead will be central to
building the robust, scalable systems that make this advocacy possible.
Role Purpose
The Communications Lead will define and drive ClimateLens' public presence — shaping how the
project's data insights, mission, and advocacy work are communicated to the world. This role sits at
the intersection of storytelling, strategy, and community engagement: crafting content that makes

complex climate and mental health topics accessible, building a consistent brand voice across
platforms, and growing an audience that cares. As ClimateLens steps into its advocacy phase, the
Communications Lead will be instrumental in ensuring the project is seen, understood, and trusted
by the communities and partners it aims to serve.
Key Responsibilities
• Develop and maintain a content calendar and communications strategy for ClimateLens
project across CRC's social media channels, including LinkedIn and Instagram
• Translate platform insights, data findings, and project milestones into accessible, engaging
posts, explainers, and thematic storytelling
• Establish and maintain a consistent, compelling brand voice across all communications
channels that reflects ClimateLens' mission and values
• Track engagement metrics across platforms and use data to iterate on messaging, formats,
and posting cadence to optimize reach and impact
• Collaborate with the Policy Advocate, technical team, and project leadership to align
communications with ongoing advocacy, partnership, and outreach goals
Required Qualifications
• Strong writing and storytelling ability, with a talent for making complex or data-driven topics
clear, engaging, and human
• Hands-on experience with social media content creation and planning across platforms such
as LinkedIn and Instagram
• Proficiency in Canva for creating visually consistent, on-brand social media assets
• Organized and proactive, with the ability to manage a content pipeline independently and
meet regular publishing commitments
• Comfortable working in a distributed volunteer environment with minimal supervision
Nice-to-Have Qualifications
• Experience with branding, content strategy, or growth marketing in a nonprofit, advocacy, or
mission-driven context
• Familiarity with climate change, environmental advocacy, or mental health communications
• Basic graphic design or multimedia content skills using tools such as Photoshop, Illustrator,
or Figma
• Experience tracking and reporting on social media analytics and using insights to inform
strategy
• Passion for climate justice, mental health awareness, and community-centered storytelling
Key Deliverables & Success Metrics
• One social media post per month per active platform (LinkedIn, Instagram), featuring insight-
driven or mission-aligned content
• A structured content calendar maintained at least 4 weeks in advance, aligned with project
milestones and advocacy priorities
• A monthly engagement metrics report covering likes, shares, comments, and any sign-ups
or traffic driven by social content
• A consistent, recognizable brand voice established for ClimateLens across all CRC
channels within the first two months
• Positive feedback from the team and growing audience engagement over time
