Fluence is hiring a Commissioning Technician in Arlington, VA, responsible for inspecting, testing, and energizing utility-scale power equipment. The role involves interpreting drawings, troubleshooting control wiring, and conducting quality inspections. Candidates should have problem-solving skills, strong communication abilities, and a willingness to travel extensively (over 75%). Preferred qualifications include experience with electrical equipment installation and commissioning, particularly with inverters and battery storage systems.

What does a Commissioning Technician do at Fluence?
• Inspect, test, and energize utility-scale power and controls equipment, executing and completing check sheets, as required.
• Interpret single-line drawings and schematics. Validate project installation and configurations. Develop and submit redline drawings.
• Perform electrical installation testing and phase rotation testing.
• Troubleshoot control wiring and I/O racks.
• Configure TCP/IP and modbus protocols.
• Monitor Fluence Product Deliveries and conduct the defined Quality Inspections while documenting the locations as to where Products are placed.
• Complete all defined Inspection Test Plan and Quality Checklist daily through the Fluence provided data collection systems.
• Maintain full attendance to all required safety trainings for both personnel and safe handling of the Fluence Products and report all non-conformances to the Fluence Management Team.
• Maintain a professional and clear line of communication with all on-site staff.
• Attend all internal coordination calls for both Commissioning and Quality to remain abreast of actions that affect the employee work scope. What does the ideal candidate look like?
• Demonstrated problem-solving skills related to electrical troubleshooting.
• Passion for your work, and communication skills such that your passion motivates colleagues, clients, suppliers, and contractors.
• Maintains open lines of communication to supervisors, engineers, and managers. Utilizes stop-work authority when warranted. Alerts project team members immediately of issues and concerns.
• Excited to self-learn new skills on engineered systems with minimal oversight.
• Able to travel extensively for all commissioning activities (>75%). Must be available for frequent and extended overnight trips, including over weekends and holidays.
• Preferred Experience:
• High school diploma with at least 2 years demonstrated experience with the installation and commissioning of electrical equipment with multiple inputs, such as switchgear, inverters, motor control centers, etc.
• Knowledge of inverters (1MW or larger).
• Experience with battery energy storage systems, including 1500 VDC and 630 VAC.
• Experience with Managed Ethernet Switches, Media Converters (Fiber & Serial).
• Experience with using electrical testing equipment, including meggers and multimeters.
