Job Description

The University of South Alabama is seeking Coastal Sustainability Interns for interdisciplinary research in fisheries, ecosystem management, and coastal hazards. Interns will work primarily at the Stokes School of Marine & Environmental Sciences in Mobile, AL, with fieldwork opportunities along the Alabama Gulf Coast. Responsibilities include conducting surveys, data processing, and assisting with research. Desired skills include social science survey methods, public speaking, and proficiency in Microsoft Office and data analysis software.
The Scyphers Lab at the University of South Alabama currently has multiple intern positions available. These positions will gain interdisciplinary research experience and skills by assisting with projects related to fisheries, ecosystem management, and coastal hazards. These positions will be primarily based at the University of South Alabama’s Stokes School of Marine & Environmental Sciences in Mobile, Alabama with opportunities to also work at the Dauphin Island Sea Lab and conduct fieldwork throughout the Alabama Gulf Coast. Example responsibilities and research training will include conducting stakeholder surveys and interviews, data processing, assisting graduate students with field and lab research, and developing outreach and communication materials. Desired skills include:
• Experience with social science survey methods
• Strong public speaking skills
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office
• Familiarity ArcGIS, SPSS, Python, or R Studio
