The Climate Risk & Resilience Team at FM seeks an intern to contribute to a cutting-edge project involving tornado loss data analysis and GIS database creation.

This internship will provide the opportunity to work with senior staff and gain hands-on experience in:
• Tornado research and insurance losses
• Wind engineering and risk assessment
• Data cleaning, analysis, and visualization using ArcGIS and Python

About the Project

The project involves analyzing past tornado losses, linking these losses to known tornado events, collecting engineering information, and creating a searchable GIS database.

By the end of the internship, you will have gained valuable experience in:
• Tornado research and its applications in insurance
• Data analysis and visualization techniques
• Collaboration with senior staff and cross-functional teams

About You

We are looking for highly motivated undergraduate students with strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and experience with programming languages such as Python, R, and MATLAB. Familiarity with ArcGIS, QGIS, and GDAL is also desirable.

Apart from technical skills, we value excellent written and verbal communication skills, as well as the ability to work effectively in a team environment.
