The City of Edmonton is seeking a Climate Resilience Program Coordinator to manage and implement climate and energy policies and programs. The role involves collaboration with various stakeholders, project management, research, and developing strategies to support the city's climate goals. The Climate Resilience Program Coordinator supports the management and implementation of energy, climate and environmental policies, strategies, programs and projects. This work directly contributes to the climate priorities of City Council and the actions outlined in the City Plan, Edmonton’s Energy Transition Strategy, Edmonton’s Climate Adaptation Strategy and other environmental strategic planning documents.
Achieving the ambitious objectives in these plans requires a systems thinking approach and involves working collaboratively with internal stakeholders across the corporation, as well as community members, businesses, organizations, and advisory boards. Your success will be measured by your ability to achieve results in a respectful, inclusive and service-minded way.
With a focus on the City of Edmonton’s Cultural Commitments to Safe, Helpful, Accountable, Integrated and Excellent, you will:
- Plan, support and coordinate activities to maintain and continuously improve the City of Edmonton’s climate and energy programs, policies and strategies.
- Conduct special projects and activities to support community energy transition and climate mitigation, including research, report writing, developing and implementing supports that advance strategic market transformation, regulations and community mobilization.
- Develop project charters, supporting documents, business cases, contract agreements and related program planning and management materials; seek and secure funding for Environment & Climate Resilience programs and services.
- Develop and manage complex projects to deliver on Council’s climate resilience goals.
- Complete ongoing measurement and evaluation of projects and programs related to environment and climate, resilience and development of corrective actions to ensure integration with other departments and alignment with the Council’s vision and City goals.
- Provide support and recommendations for other project teams advancing work related to environment and climate resilience.
- Establish and implement support of processes, procedures and standards for continual improvement of climate strategy implementation.
- Build and support relationships with external organizations to accelerate energy transition through partnerships and advocacy.
- Research and understand emerging issues, policies, strategies and trends in climate change mitigation, adaptation, energy transition, and environmental information that may impact the City.
• *Qualifications:
- University degree in environmental sciences, climate science, climate policy, urban planning, environmental studies, business administration, political science or a related field.
- Membership in a related professional association is an asset.
- A minimum of 5 years of experience with project management, policy development and coordination experience.
- Leadership experience is an asset.
- Extensive knowledge of environment and climate resilience legislation, policies, strategies.
- Knowledge and experience with the design, delivery and management of programs.
- Significant knowledge of corporate priorities, strategies, and initiatives, as well as corporate reporting processes and protocols is an asset.
- A systems thinker with knowledge and experience in strategic and business planning, the business planning cycle and process, as well as integrating strategic planning into operational practice.
- Knowledge or experience with creating and implementing marketing strategies and organizing promotional activities.
- Excellent writing skills and experience preparing and presenting technical briefing notes and reports for leadership.
- Experience and skill in the use of analytics and data intelligence to support decision making processes.
- Experience in an intergovernmental environment, working with government officials and stakeholders.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective work relationships as necessitated by work assignments.
- Demonstrated ability to achieve results in the context of a respectful, inclusive and service-minded style
