Job Description
The City of Philadelphia is seeking a Climate Resilience Planning and Engagement Specialist to lead a citywide engagement process for updating the Resilience Plan and climate adaptation initiatives. Responsibilities include managing contracts, facilitating stakeholder engagement, and developing community programs. About the position
The Climate Resilience Planning and Engagement Specialist will play a critical role in helping Philadelphia prepare for climate change. This position will lead a citywide equitable engagement process over a two-year period to inform the update to the Resilience Plan and other climate adaptation initiatives. The specialist will manage several large contracts and work with consultants to engage a diverse group of stakeholders across the city, fostering collaboration and promoting actions that enhance the resilience of Philadelphia to climate-related impacts.
Responsibilities
• Support management of several large consultant contracts
,
• Act as a liaison to a Community Steering Committee and a Youth Climate Council
,
• Develop and launch Climate Resilience Ambassador program
,
• Lead a citywide public engagement process involving in-person and digital engagement
,
• Conduct engagement activities in up to five frontline communities
,
• Facilitate stakeholder engagement with municipal staff and sector leaders
,
• Run an art and poetry competition with partners
,
• Maintain relationships with community partners and organizations
,
• Develop, draft, iterate, and finalize the Climate Resilience Plan
,
• Monitor and track metrics and goals consistent with commitments made to the funder
,
• Develop project updates and reports for funders and partner agencies
Requirements
• An Associate's or Bachelor's degree in urban planning, environmental science, sustainability or other relevant degree
,
• At least five years of full-time professional level experience working in a relevant field or an equivalent combination of education and experience
,
• Thorough understanding of climate science and resilience planning principles
,
• Demonstrated public engagement and facilitation experience
,
• Experience with contract management and project management
Nice-to-haves
• Professional experience with community development and advocacy
,
• Professional experience with flood mitigation, stormwater management, heat mitigation, or emergency management
,
• Relevant graduate-level degree
,
• Bilingual in English and Spanish, Portuguese, Mandarin or French
,
• Experience with conflict resolution
,
• Familiarity with Philadelphia
,
• Experience working with GIS
,
• Experience working with and analyzing data
,
• Graphic design experience
,
• Community organizing
