Job Description
Rincon Consultants, Inc. is seeking an experienced Climate Planner/Project Manager who will collaborate within Rincon’s Sustainability, Climate, and Innovation (SCI) in developing innovative climate action and resilience plans for water agencies. Rincon’s Climate Team works with cities, counties, special districts, and water agencies throughout California on the assessment, planning, and implementation of climate adaptation and mitigation programs. Specific areas of adaptation and resilience emphasis include developing strategies to address drought, groundwater and sea level rise, fluvial floods, wildfires, and urban heat.
We also support our water agency clients with climate mitigation with an emphasis on decarbonization, electrification, and renewable energy.
This position requires an entrepreneurial spirit, strong technical analysis and data management skills, excellent communication and writing skills, and a good understanding of water agency planning and management of water supplies, infrastructure, and operations. The ideal candidate will have excellent analytical skills, experience with large, complex data sets, and the ability to evaluate vulnerabilities, greenhouse gas emissions, and track climate resilience and mitigation progress.
Rincon’s SCI Practice emphasizes teamwork to help clients develop and implement ambitious climate resilience strategies. We aim for our work to result in tangible, positive community change. We value sustainability, equity, and innovation, and this role offers the flexibility to work from any of our 13 office locations, with a preference for Carlsbad, San Diego, Los Angeles, Oakland, Ventura, or Santa Barbara, including potential hybrid/remote arrangements within California.
Key
Duties and Responsibilities:
• Assist with designing and preparing climate adaptation, resilience, and sustainability plans for water-related agencies.
• Analyze data related to water supply, climate change, energy, infrastructure, and environmental factors to support risk evaluation and adaptation strategies.
• Conduct research, including modeling costs and benefits of various mitigation and adaptation options.
• Coordinate with internal teams and external stakeholders on climate and sustainability matters.
• Promote a culture of ownership, teamwork, and quality service to clients.
• Enhance Rincon’s reputation through creative and professional representation.
• Work with leadership to align business interests with Rincon’s mission and values.
• Engage with diverse communities and communicate complex scientific topics effectively.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Planning, Climate Change, Engineering, or related field.
• 3-5 years of experience working with water agencies in the Western U.S.
• 2 years of experience on climate change projects.
• Familiarity with climate projection tools like Cal-Adapt and WCRP CMIP6 data.
• Experience with federal and state water regulations (e.g., NPDES, water efficiency standards).
• Knowledge of One Water and IRWM concepts.
• Experience managing budgets, data analytics, and translating science into operational solutions.
• Excellent communication, planning, and organizational skills.
• Ability to multi-task and work independently or in teams.
• Resourcefulness, attention to detail, and a positive attitude.
Compensation and Benefits:
