Environment Services - Shaping a Greener, More Sustainable Future
We have an exciting opportunity for a Climate Officer to join our Climate and Environment Service and play a key role in leading Wiltshire Council’s response to the Climate Emergency.
The Climate Team works with officers and elected members across the council, and with external partners and businesses to deliver on this agenda.
As a Climate Officer, you will help the council deliver its Climate Strategy. Leading a specific area of strategy implementation, you will collaborate with managers and partners and shape a corporate and partnership approach to climate action in Wiltshire. You will manage climate projects, including externally funded contracts, overseeing all aspects from planning to supervision of consultants and staff. Developing expertise in your field, you will monitor national and regional policy changes and assess their local impact.
Currently, we are seeking two officers. There are opportunities to support across the broad spectrum of climate strategy delivery, however one officer will lead climate adaptation and resilience, focusing on climate risk assessment and working with strategic partners, particularly in the farm and natural environment sector. The second officer will lead our work in the area of new developments and planning. The officer will develop their specialism in net zero and resilient buildings. They will be responsible for engaging with developers, and responding to planning consultations, providing expert input relating to climate objectives, and will therefore need a good working knowledge of the planning system.
Our ideal candidate will be Degree level qualified (or equivalent) in a relevant area such as environmental management, engineering, or climate science and able to demonstrate significant experience in a similar role, with the ability to demonstrate excellent project management skills and expertise.
Passionate about our environment, you will possess proven expert knowledge and experience of climate issues along with expert, up-to-date working knowledge of the agenda. As a climate officer, you will have a successful track record of developing and delivering systems, policies, and procedures and experience of liaising with multiple stakeholders using your relationship management and communication skills.
A variety of hours and working patterns will be considered for these roles with hybrid working arrangements.
