Job Description

Columbia University is seeking an Associate Research Scientist specializing in climate modeling and machine learning. The role involves developing and testing new parameterizations for atmospheric processes and collaborating with the MLInES team to enhance climate understanding and model accuracy. This position offers access to advanced research facilities and is a full-time opportunity based in Boulder, CO.
We are looking for an exceptional researcher to join our team as an Associate Research Scientist. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in climate modeling and machine learning, with experience in developing and testing new parameterizations for subgrid atmospheric processes.

The successful applicant will be responsible for implementing, testing, and further developing new machine-learning parameterizations for convection and turbulence, as well as observations-based nudging tendencies in CESM. They will also work closely with the MLInES atmospheric science team to advance our understanding of climate processes and reduce climate model biases.
