Job Description

beBee Careers is seeking a Climate Modeling Research Associate in Princeton, NJ. The role involves developing hybrid sea ice models using machine learning, including creating a neural network for model corrections and evaluating its impact on climate simulations. Candidates should have a Ph.D. and experience in climate modeling and sea ice physics. This is a full-time position.
Climate Modeling Research Associate

We are looking for a research associate to contribute to the development of hybrid models for sea ice that combine coupled climate models and machine learning.

The successful candidate will work on developing a conservative machine-learning based sea ice model correction that can be applied to fully coupled climate model simulations.

The project involves several tasks:
• Developing a neural network that conserves heat, mass, and salt across model components.
• Implementing the network in the SIS2 sea ice model.
• Evaluating the impact of the conservative network in fully coupled historical and scenario climate simulations.
• Developing an emulator for sea ice model physics.

The work is part of a larger project aiming to reduce climate model biases at the air-sea/ice interface using machine learning techniques.

Candidates should have a Ph.D. degree and experience with coupled climate modeling and sea ice physics.
