Job Description
Morningstar is seeking a Climate Methodology Analyst in Toronto, ON, to develop and enhance Sustainalytics’ Climate Solutions products. Responsibilities include collaborating with teams on product development, testing methodologies, and creating documentation. Candidates should have a relevant degree and experience in climate analysis or ESG. The role requires strong quantitative skills, creativity, and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively.

About the Role The position is of strategic importance to the company as you will contribute to the development, maintenance, and enhancement of Sustainalytics’ Climate Solutions product suite, including the Low Carbon Transition, GHG Emissions and Physical Risk offerings, as well as other products designed in the field of ESG this position, you have the opportunity to do pioneering work and be part of a team that values entrepreneurial thinking and the ability to drive improvements in our product offering.
You will collaborate closely with product managers, research teams and IT to develop product ideas into market-ready products. The role comprises also the maintenance of existing product methodologies and the creation of methodology-related documents and publications.
Key Responsibilities Collaborate with methodology managers on methodology & product development; translation of product ideas and climate subject matter expertise into data-driven models.
Translation of product and climate content into climate focusedproducts, in close collaboration with product managers, client teams, IT teams and research teams.
Testing of internal and external validity of a model/methodology including change/impact analyses and portfolio performance analyses.
Interpretation and communication of testing results.
Prototype methodology developments and enhancements in Python and Excel in order to evaluate the impact of methodological updates and support concept development.
Interpret, visualize, present, and explain results of quantitative analyses and reports relating to methodology updates, enhancements, and developments.
Contribute to the creation of thought-leadership papers.
Serve as a prominent representative for the team and aid in the preparation of materials for external use e.g. conference slides, marketing materials.
Qualifications & Competencies Bachelor's or master's degree in economics, finance, climate, environmental science, environmental engineering, or related discipline.
A strong skillset that includes a background in quantitative analysis, an understanding of the ever-evolving climate science, regulatory needs and trends in reporting and disclosure, in particular mandatory reporting, physical risk hazards and resilience, GHG accounting and resulting investors’ needs and challenges.
Creativity and problem solving that can be applied in real-life applications.
Attention to detail, good understanding of regulatory texts and jargon, structural thinking with strong conceptual capabilities as well as understanding of global regulatory dynamics.
Ability to work independently and within a strong team environment.
3+ years of experience working in climate analysis, consulting or ESG/ ESG Financial related research
Strong MS Excel, experience in Python, other statistical software considered an asset.
Competences in statistics and mathematical modelling are a plus.
SQL and Power
