Job Summary

Morgan State University, Maryland's premier public urban research institution, seeks a distinguished scientist to lead the newly established Center for Urban and Coastal Climate Science Research. This center focuses on addressing critical climate change challenges related to natural ecosystems, the built environment, economy, and resident health and well-being. We are looking for an accomplished researcher and leader with a strong track record in environmental science, including coastal and marine science, environmental toxicology, risk assessment, environmental modeling, or related disciplines.

The ideal candidate will oversee research and educational initiatives in crucial areas such as urban air quality, human and environmental health, community resilience, climate impacts on energy resources, coastal watershed dynamics, and sustainable fisheries management. These efforts aim to advance scientific understanding and provide evidence-based recommendations for effective climate change management strategies in Maryland and beyond.

Responsibilities:
• Implementing the center's strategic vision and research agenda.
• Developing and executing a robust research program in their specific area of climate science.
• Securing external funding through grants, contracts, and partnerships.
• Mentoring students and early-stage investigators to support their development into independent environmental researchers.
• Leading the evaluation and enhancement of the center's research activities.
