Job Description

DAI is hiring a Climate Change Analyst for the Gran Chaco region in Paraguay. The role involves analyzing land-based conservation strategies to reduce GHG emissions and providing recommendations based on political economy assessments. Key deliverables include a comprehensive report on emissions reduction potential and a work plan for fieldwork. This is a full-time position based in Bethesda, MD, with no specific degree requirements mentioned.
The USAID Mission in Paraguay is seeking a Climate Change Analyst to join the Sustainable Landscapes Opportunity Analysis (SLOA) team focused on the Gran Chaco region and Upper Paran Atlantic Forest.

The SLOA will provide an overview of options to reduce GHG emissions through land-based conservation, management, and restoration, including estimates of the potential impact of each intervention on net GHG emissions.

The Climate Change Analyst will be responsible for analyzing the political economy of land-based mitigation in Paraguay, identifying opportunities and challenges, and providing recommendations for reducing emissions.

The analyst will also collaborate with the SLOA team to develop a comprehensive report that includes a political economy analysis and support the incorporation of political feasibility of emissions reduction activities into the desk-based SLOA.
Key Deliverables
• A desk-based SLOA of 40-60 pages, outlining the magnitude of the biophysical potential for emissions avoidance, reduction, or sequestration in Paraguay, organized by NCS pathway.
• A political economy analysis that identifies opportunities and challenges for reducing emissions in Paraguay.
• A work plan for fieldwork of up to 20 days, including input for selecting local institutions and stakeholders for key informant interviews.
