Job Description

The Clean Education Summer Programs Coordinator at Clean Foundation in Dartmouth, NS, is responsible for coordinating and delivering environmental education programs across the province. About the Clean Leadership Summer Internship Program

The Clean Leadership Summer Internship program helps grow the clean economy by matching interns (age 15-30) with employers for 9- and 15-week summer work placements. Participating interns will receive paid hands-on experience, mentorship opportunities, take part in a professional development conference and training, while supporting local environmental projects.

Program Requirements
• Must be a Canadian citizen, Permanent Resident, person who has been granted refugee status in Canada or legally entitled to work in Canada;
• Must be between the ages of 15 and 30 years old (inclusive) at the start of internship;
• From and/or will be residing in Nova Scotia for the duration of the internship;
• Must not be an immediate family member of host employer;

Clean Foundation works in the ancestral and unceded territories of the Mi’kmaq and Wolastoqiyik.  While Clean Foundation’s primary mainland Nova Scotian office is in downtown Dartmouth, this position will see the successful candidate travel regularly – both locally and around the province to deliver educational programming. 

Summary of position

The host employer for this Summer Internship position through the Clean Leadership program will be Clean Foundation’s Education and Engagement team. In this position, you will be mainly responsible for coordinating, scheduling, and delivering fun, engaging environmental summer education programs to community organizations across the province, as well as providing mentorship for the Clean Education Summer Programs Intern. Day to day, the Clean Education Summer Programs Coordinator will be outreaching to and communicating with various community organizations to schedule delivery of our summer programs; maintaining an inventory of program materials; delivering high quality, age-appropriate environmental education to youth; and providing support to the Education and Engagement team as needed. The successful candidate needs to have a valid Nova Scotian Driver’s license and be 21 or older to operate Clean’s fleet of electric vehicles. Candidates must be willing to complete a Driver’s Abstract check and Vulnerable Sector Check.

Duties and Responsibilities
• Initiate outreach to community organizations, summer camps, and community groups around the province, with support from our Environmental Educators; 
• Maintain clear and timely communication with community organizations and camps; 
• Book summer program sessions and organize trips around the province to deliver education sessions;  
• Deliver high quality, fun, engaging environmental education programs alongside Environmental Educators and the 9-week Summer Programs Educator;
• Support the improvement of existing workshops by suggesting adjustments to activities and experiences and sourcing additional resources;
• Maintain summer program materials and equipment, taking regular inventory and notifying team as materials are needed;  
• Support the promotion of our education programs through social media, capturing photos or videos, or contributing to our monthly newsletter, etc.;  
• Demonstrate leadership by working with and supporting the 9-week Summer Programs Educator on outreach trips, during program delivery, and while completing administrative tasks.  

Requirements/Qualifications
• Have an aptitude for safe work practices and the ability to multi-task in a busy work environment;
• Be able to work productively as part of a team while responding to feedback;
• Demonstrated interest in future employment in the environmental or clean sector is considered an asset;
• Knowledgeable on environmental topics such as sustainability, environmental science, renewable energy, and climate change;  
• Undergraduate degree in Environmental Science, Biology, Sustainability, Education etc., is considered an asset;
• Experience leading groups of children or youth ages 4-18;
• Strong oral communication and confident presenting in front of groups; 
• Strong organizational and time management skills;
• High degree of reliability and professionalism;
• Experience as a supervisor or in a leadership or mentorship role;
• Experience working with Microsoft Suite tools (Teams, Outlook, PowerPoint, Excel, etc); 
• Must be able to participate in overnight trips around the province for program delivery  
• Must have a valid driver’s license and be at least 21 years of age (as per company fleet policy). 

Working Conditions

This position involves frequent work with the public (mainly youth) and includes regular travel in the form of day-trips and overnight trips around the province. Much of this work will be outdoors.

Physical Requirements

This position requires leading physically active games, as well as loading and unloading program materials from the vehicles to the program sites, up to a maximum of 50 lbs (23 kgs).
