Job Summary
Plans, designs, and oversees large construction projects and systems, particularly water and wastewater systems.General Accountabilities
Analyzes survey reports, maps, drawings, blueprints, aerial photography, and other topographical or geologic data to plan projects.
Considers construction costs, government regulations, potential environmental hazards, and other factors in planning stages and risk analysis.
Compiles and submits permit applications to local, state, and federal agencies verifying that projects comply with various regulations.
Computes load and grade requirements, water flow rates, or material stress factors to determine design specifications.
Manages and directs staff members and the construction, operations, or maintenance activities at project site.
Provides technical advice regarding design, construction, or program modifications and structural repairs to industrial and managerial personnel.
Inspects project sites to monitor progress and ensure conformance to design specifications and safety or sanitation standards.
Estimates quantities and cost of materials, equipment, or labor to determine project feasibility.
Tests soils or materials to determine the adequacy and strength of foundations, concrete, asphalt, or steel.
Prepares or presents public reports on topics such as bid proposals, deeds, environmental impact statements, or property and right-of-way descriptions.
Designs energy efficient or environmentally sound civil structures.

Job Qualifications
Education: Bachelor's degree in civil engineering or a related field
Experience: Candidates must possess either their Professional Engineering license or Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification or demonstrate a commitment to obtaining this status within one year of employment.Skills
