Job Position: Chief Mining Engineer

Job Description:

The Chief Mining Engineer is responsible for providing technical assistance support to the mine operations as well as developing, leading, directing and coordinating mine/staff engineers, surveyors, and technicians, in their given operational responsibilities. Ensuring a safe and environmentally excellent setting for the technical team is paramount to the success of the mine. Building an environment that integrates the engineering group with an operations team which challenges and inspires creativity, fact-finding and solution . Leading the engineering department in breaking down barriers between departments.

Essential Functions:

· Provide leadership for a safe, productive and collaborative mine technical team

· Actively support Health & Safety Management and Environmental systems and regulatory compliance

· Coach and mentor the Engineering Department in accordance with SVMC leadership qualities.

· Regularly interact and be visible with the workforce, demonstrating high-level leadership qualities

· Work with site senior leadership team in continuing the development of a focused, engaged culture throughout the organization

· Establish and execute short and long-range plans that support the optimal growth of the operation

· Develop and execute strategic workforce planning and organizational development with the technical team

· Foster cooperation, collaboration, and innovation to ensure that realistic technical goals ae being set and met. Ensure that resource value is being maximized

· Facilitate weekly planning meetings and other site technical meetings

· Lead site mine technical team to ensure maximum support to mine operations and maintenance activities as well as other mine support groups through safely optimizing mine operation systems, planning and procedures

· Oversee multiple work groups and take appropriate action in supporting positive actions as well as professionally addressing inappropriate behaviors

· Be pro-active in all aspects of the operation; safety, effective and efficient utilization of resources, productivity, Continuous Improvement initiatives, and teamwork across the site

· Partner with the Mine Geology team and other technical areas to provide maximum and efficient technical support to the mine production and operations areas of the site

· Demonstrate positive two-way communication, fair and consistent administration of Company policies and procedures, and responsiveness to employee concerns

· Develop and communication site goals and initiatives in cooperation with other site managers

· Responsibilities include (but are not limited to) mine ventilation, rock mechanics, mine planning and survey, paste backfill planning and operations, maintenance and development of surface facilities in support of the mining operation, design of waste laydown areas, ore stockpile areas

Qualifications/Knowledge/Skills/Experience Required:

· Degree in Mine Engineering or related technical degree or its equivalent from a recognized institution

· Minimum ten (10) years of relevant mining experience, with a mix of mine production and project background with six (6) years in a technical or operational leadership role

· Strong ability to coach and mentor others, both peers and subordinates

· Solid understanding and application of MSHA regulations and compliance

· Decisive leader with solid organizational and planning skills

· Proficiency in mine engineering systems, cost management, and productivity enhancement

· Extensive experience in UG mining with specific experience of long hole open stope mining methods highly desirable

· Excellent oral, presentational and written communication skills

· Proficiency in the preparation of operating and capital budgets

· Experienced in MS suite package, Deswik, LeapFrog, Xeras and database management software
