Job Description

Carbyon is seeking a Chief Technology Officer in Eindhoven, Netherlands, to lead the development and implementation of their technology vision and strategy. The role involves overseeing R&D, managing a high-performing team, ensuring product quality, collaborating with external partners, and managing the R&D budget. The CTO will also be responsible for compliance, risk management, and representing Carbyon in industry forums. This position is focused on addressing climate change through innovative technology.
Climate change is real and we need to act fast. Our purpose is to restore the carbon balance in our atmosphere. We believe it’s important to have a positive impact on society, the economy, and the climate. Are you ready to join us on our mission? 🌎

Role

While we’ve secured our series A round of funding, the current challenge is to (eventually) deliver a commercially viable product. While we’re about to proof our concept of our newest (and to be used) architecture, it’s a long – yet challenging – (technical) road to go.

And that’s where you come in as our Chief Technology Officer. Primarily, it’s within your scope to define and implement Carbyon’s technology vision and strategy. This includes overseeing the research and development of our cutting-edge technology itself, managing the R&D team (e.g. Electrical, Software, Mechanical, Mechatronics/Control, Modeling) and to ensure alignment of technology initiatives with our business goals.

Responsibilities

While the context above gives you some idea of what the focus of your role will be, the key responsibilities sharpen this.

Technology Vision and Strategy
• Develop and implement a comprehensive technology roadmap that aligns with Carbyon’s vision and goals
• Identify and evaluate emerging technologies and trends that can provide competitive advantages
• Communicate the technology strategy to stakeholders (e.g. investors, management team & board, and the team as a whole)

Innovation and Product Development
• Lead the Research & Development of our technology
• Oversee the product development process: from concept to release
• Ensure the delivery of a high-quality and scalable product that meets market needs and regulatory standards

(Technical) Leadership
• Build a high-performing R&D team, fostering a culture of innovation and collaboration
• Set clear goals, cultivate feedback, and ensure professional growth opportunities for team members
• Be an advocate of best practices across the different competencies (such as model-based system design)

Partnerships and Collaboration
• Collaborate with external partners (e.g. universities, research institutions, industry experts) to leverage cutting-edge technologies
• Represent Carbyon at industry events, conferences and in public forums to build Carbyon’s reputation and network

Technical operations and Infrastructure
• Develop and enforce technology policies, standards and procedures to ensure compliance with industry regulations and best practices

Budgeting and Resource Allocation
• Develop and manage the R&D budget, ensuring efficient allocation of resources
• Monitor and control technology expenditures to align with Carbyon’s financial objectives
• Drive and manage initiatives for securing non-dilutive funding for R&D initiatives (e.g. national and international subsidies and grants)

Risk Management and Compliance
• Identify and mitigate technology-related risks
• Stay updated on relevant regulations and standards, ensuring Carbyon’s compliance
• Take responsibility for Carbyon’s IP strategy and the implementation of robust processes for IP Management (including patents, trade secrets and confidential information about key technology components)

Why join us?
