Job Description

Varaha is seeking a Carbon and GHG Modeler in Gurugram, Haryana, India. The role involves process-based modeling of GHG emissions and SOC dynamics, utilizing DayCent and DNDC, and requires expertise in Python or R. The candidate will analyze model outputs, contribute to MRV frameworks, and prepare scientific reports. A Master's or Ph.D. in a relevant field is required, along with strong analytical and communication skills.
• Conduct process-based modeling using DayCent and DNDC to simulate GHG emissions and SOC dynamics in agricultural systems.
• Develop, calibrate, and validate model runs based on field data and literature sources.
• Analyze and interpret model outputs to provide insights into carbon sequestration potential and emission reduction strategies.
• Optimize model workflows using Python or R for efficient data processing and analysis.
• Contribute to the development of Monitoring, Reporting, and Verification (MRV) frameworks for carbon projects.
• Stay updated with carbon protocols and methodologies to ensure compliance with industry standards.
• Prepare high-quality scientific reports, publications, and technical documents for both internal and external stakeholders.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including data scientists, agronomists, and policy experts, to integrate model results into decision-making processes.
• Communicate findings effectively to technical and non-technical audiences through presentations, reports, and publications.

Qualifications
• Master’s or Ph.D. in Environmental Science, Soil Science, Agronomy, Climate Science, or a related field.
• Strong expertise in process-based modeling, particularly DayCent and DNDC.
• Strong understanding of crop, carbon, nitrogen cycle and soil dynamics
• Proficiency in Python or R for data analysis, model automation, and visualization.
• Demonstrated experience in scientific writing and publishing peer-reviewed research.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications
• Knowledge of Indian agriculture
• Knowledge of carbon protocols, MRV methodologies, and carbon credit markets.
• Experience with remote sensing and GIS tools for spatial analysis.
• Experience working with stakeholders in the carbon market sector.
