Job Description

Hays is seeking a Carbon Lead for a 12-month fixed-term contract in West Midlands. The role involves coordinating lifecycle assessments, managing carbon deliverables, and promoting low-carbon solutions on-site three days a week. Candidates should have a background in Environmental Science or related fields and experience with carbon mitigation in infrastructure. We currently have an exciting opportunity for a Carbon Lead (12 Month FTC) within the Environmental Sustainability Function of a large construction project. This role will be based on site 3 days per week. The head office is located near Birmingham in an excellent location easily accessible via the M6 and M42 but there are also several sites that can be a base office in the Midlands.
Responsibilities
Co-ordinate with other carbon leads regarding the development of lifecycle assessments.
Review and ensure all deliverables related to carbon, such as the 6-monthly LCA reports.
Provide technical expertise to the Environmental, Delivery and Design teams.
Maintain the Project's Carbon Management Plan.
Organise and attend Carbon leads key meetings and workshops with technical leads.
Maintain a carbon and resources opportunity register in coordination with the Waste and Resources Lead.
Promote and encourage low-carbon solutions to the relevant construction, procurement and design teams.
Manage PAS 2080 certification (maintain evidence, attendance in audits, auditor payments, etc.)
Provide carbon training and materials.
Interface with the BREEAM Assessor and BREEAM Co-ordinator to ensure the project is on track to achieve excellent certification
Ensure carbon reporting (for both the company and the supply chain) is recorded and communicated during the construction stages
Establish and monitor Carbon KPIs and coordinate the carbon champion network
Liaise with parent companies as and when required.
What you'll need to succeed
A sound understanding of carbon impact/mitigation issues on major infrastructure schemes.Working knowledge of LCA reporting.
Understanding of GHG reporting standards, guidance and regulatory regimes for example PAS 2080; ESOS etc.
Experience in integrating low-carbon and resilient solutions into infrastructure design or during the construction phase of a scheme.
A science-based background i.e. relevant BSc or equivalent qualification in Environmental Science, Sustainability, Carbon, Energy or similar.
Sustainability/carbon/energy or similar MSc desirable.
Member of an environmental professional body desirable.
Proficiency in Office applications and use of analytical tools.
Understanding of the benefits of working collaboratively to obtain the best outcome for the project.
Good interpersonal and communication skills.
Determination to see tasks through to completion, with excellent planning and organisation skills
