SRI International is seeking a talented and motivated individual to join our team as a Carbon Capture Research Post-Doctoral Researcher. The successful candidate will be an integral part of our Carbon and Water Management Laboratory, contributing to groundbreaking research in carbon capture technologies.

This position offers an exciting opportunity to work on innovative projects aimed at mitigating greenhouse gas emissions and advancing sustainable energy solutions.

The location for this role can be remote – however for the first 12 months or so, will be located in Wilsonville, AL at the National Carbon Capture site – onsite. We can only hire a U.S. Citizen for this role. After that time, ideally this employee will join the research group in Menlo Park, CA.

Responsibilities

The main focus of this job is to operate a state-of-the-art CO2 capture pilot plant in Wilsonville, AL. Plant operations involve:
• Monitoring the process using software
• Collecting process samples for analysis
• Monitoring the performance of process equipment
• Performing tasks such as gas cylinder changeouts
• Providing status updates to the rest of the team

Other duties could include preparing and presenting reports on the performance of the system, aiding in proposal efforts for future scale-up of the process, aiding in project management activities such as shift and travel coordination, and/or performing equipment maintenance. The plant would be staffed 24/7 with a team of 2 SRI engineers onsite for operations at all times.

Qualifications
• Recent graduate of PhD program in Chemical Engineering, or relevant degree focus related to process and carbon capture research.
• Due to government requirements, US Citizenship is required.
• Ability to follow procedures with attention to detail
• Ability to troubleshoot and problem solve
• Basic chemistry understanding (solubility, precipitation, absorption, regeneration)
• Ability to read drawings (P&IDs preferably, but any experience matching drawings to actual equipment is helpful)
• Basic equipment understanding (e.g. don’t turn on a pump without first opening the valve downstream)
• Familiarity with handling compressed gases (ammonia)/cylinder changeout and chemicals
• Familiarity with CO2 capture
• Ability to troubleshoot equipment
• Familiarity with analytical tasks such as titrating liquids, calibrating gas analyzers
• Ability to effectively communicate in a team environment

Physical Requirements:
• Willingness to travel
• Willingness to work nights if needed
• Ability to work safely in moderately challenging environments (outdoors, variable weather, climbing ladders)
• Ability to work 12 hour shifts, 5 days a week

The salary range is: $80,704 to $95,000 annually. Salary ranges will vary and are based on several factors, including geographic location, market competitiveness and equity amongst internal employees in similar roles. Positions may also qualify for SRI’s Pay for Outstanding Performance program or the annual Performance Based Compensation program.
