Earthbanc is seeking a Carbon Analyst in Eldoret, Kenya, to support agroforestry and carbon projects. Responsibilities include conducting research and data analysis, preparing technical reports, and assisting in carbon monitoring and certification processes. Earthtree is present in Kenya and India, and the subsidiaries of Earthbanc that develop agroforestry projects. In both countries Earthtree supports landowners to grow new agroforest systems in a highly data driven manner, supporting farmers with new potential sources of revenue.

We support communities to help their land regeneration goals and engage with farmers, and landholders to help them achieve their land productivity goals. Agro commodities are a key part of the strategy for increasing revenue per hectare for the landowner, enabling a sustainable cash flow, so that landowners are incentivised to keep the trees on their land for project duration.

About the Role

The Carbon Analyst will play a critical role in advancing Earthtree’s carbon operations by supporting research frameworks, data flows, and technical reporting systems to ensure the integrity, efficiency, and compliance of carbon projects to specific carbon standards and regulations. Key responsibilities include conducting advanced research and data analysis, preparing technical reports and certification documentation, supporting carbon monitoring and verification processes, and optimizing operational structures for data management. Additionally, the role involves contributing to innovation and strategic growth initiatives to enhance Earthtree’s impact in the carbon sector. Through this position, the Carbon Analyst will gain deep expertise and understanding of carbon project methodologies and play a pivotal role in generating high-value, high-integrity carbon credits.

Your Responsibilities

Research & Data Management
• Conduct in-depth research and data analysis, where applicable to support carbon project development, carbon modelling, scenario analysis, and impact assessments.

Technical Reporting & Documentation
• Contribute to the preparation of high-quality technical reports, including quarterly and annual reports.
• Contribute to the drafting of project certification documentation to ensure compliance with carbon standards and regulatory requirements.
• Support the data team in streamlining data flows and data flows across different departments in line with Carbon reporting requirements.
• Identify and evaluate areas for improvement in the project implementation and reporting
• Work with internal teams and external stakeholders to develop sustainability reporting initiatives

Carbon Monitoring & Certification Support
• Assist in the development of robust modules and monitoring protocols to enhance the credibility and effectiveness of Earthtree’s carbon project implementation.
• Support the team to move forward with each step of the carbon Project Development and Monitoring Reporting and verification process, by delivering analysis, conducting research, and interacting with relevant stakeholders.
• Take the lead in filing project documentation in collaboration with other teams and assembling audit files as pertains to project MRV compliance.

Policy Analysis and Compliance
• Stay updated with the latest developments in the carbon sector and standards, regulations and policies, and provide necessary feedback and recommendations for process improvements in the MRV plans.
• Support the team in delivering processes to ensure compliance with global, and local regulations related to carbon projects.

Process & Systems Support
• Support the design and optimization of operational structures, including policies, workflows, and standard procedures, to streamline carbon data management and reporting.
• Contribute to the development of robust systems for carbon operations, monitoring and projections (incl. MRV App optimization) in conjunction with other teams including, the GIS, Data team, and Field Operations teams.
• Support the preparation of activity plans and budgets and take the lead where required in coordinating ad hoc activities as assigned.

Knowledge Management and Communication
• Design our internal carbon knowledge management platform and process to facilitate carbon knowledge creation, retention and sharing, and to inform new strategies.
• Prepare presentations both regular reporting and ad hoc – in MS PowerPoint and other formats for internal and external audiences
• Communicate complex data and insights clearly and effectively to diverse stakeholders, and internal teams where necessary.
• Any other relevant tasks as directed by team supervisors

About You
• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent from a recognised University, in the areas of Environmental Science, Climate Change, NRM, Agriculture, Agroforestry or a related field.
• 2-3 years of professional work experience, including 2 years minimum in a fast-paced, demanding professional environment, which may include project management, research work or related projects.
• Experience in conducting desktop research and developing summaries for decision-making from findings.
• Clear track of developing creative solutions to complex problems
• Clear track of reporting on project activities, and drafting technical reports is required.
• Prior exposure to AFOLU projects, literacy and understanding of different carbon projects and carbon standard requirements are desired.
• Proficiency in working with collaboration platforms including Monday.com, workplace, Confluence (or other related tools) is desired.
• Clear verbal, written, and visual communication skills are required
• Strong ability to manage projects and timelines independently
• Advanced MS Excel skills as it relates to data analysis are desired
• Advanced presentation preparation skills
• A strong understanding of policies and environmental regulations for carbon projects and land restoration is required
• A team player with a proactive and flexible work style
• Comfortable working in a startup culture that is dynamic, unstructured, and frequently changing with ambitious expansion plans
• Passionate about carbon projects, afforestation and landscape restoration in partnership with farmers
