Job Description
Habitat Energy is seeking a Business Development Analyst in Austin, TX, to support US business development through analytical tasks. Responsibilities include developing models for pricing optimization, conducting market analysis, enhancing CRM capabilities, and providing client advisory services. The ideal candidate should have a quantitative degree and at least 3 years of experience in energy trading or analytics. The role is based in the office and not remote.

We have a vacancy for a Business Development Analyst to join our US team based in Austin, Texas. This role will support and lead on various analytical tasks in support of US business development/origination. This includes but is not limited to developing analytical models in support of structuring and pricing hedging opportunities, pricing optimization contracts and new market analysis. This also includes building out our CRM capabilities and helping move clients along in the sales cycle through bespoke analysis, preparing pitch materials, and working with our tech teams to develop new tools for BD.
You Will Be Responsible For
• Jointly evaluated with the origination team to support new client acquisition, improve business development tools and processes, and lead model development and implementation for hedge products and pricing optimization.
• Conduct medium to long-term fundamental analysis on storage and renewables markets, competitor analysis, and market segmentation. Establish client needs, develop insights for target markets, and identify competitive differentiation.
• Lead the development of market analytics and tools for deal pricing and offtake structuring. Support the business development team in defining and pricing structured products. Develop and maintain pricing methodology and associated calculation tools.
• Provide advisory services to clients, including revenue simulations and other analytical tasks. Review the performance of live assets, conduct revenue backtests (including root cause analysis of outliers), and present findings to existing and potential clients.
• Develop business cases for new data sources, services, and technologies to improve business performance. Support the development and enhancement of CRM tools for the business development team, and create reports for tracking client progress through the sales cycle and pipeline.
• Develop analysis for client pitch materials. Support Habitat’s positioning as a thought leader through PR and marketing materials, including social media posts, conference talks, website updates, press releases, media quotes, and white papers.
• Support tender responses, execute proposals, manage follow-ups, and assist in contract negotiations using bespoke tools that highlight value drivers in terms.
• Understand customer needs and value propositions, ensuring that insights and solutions align with client expectations.
‘Must Have’ Skills And Experience
• Degree with a major quantitative component, e.g. computer science, engineering, economics, mathematics, finance
• At least 3 years of experience in energy trading and analytics, consulting or energy market modeling to demonstrate comfort and fluency in the US wholesale power markets
• Proven ability to understand complex problems and design innovative solutions.
• Experience with relational and/or non-relational databases for big data (eg, SQL).
• Ability to take initiative, influence and drive results.
• A desire for continuous learning and development.
• Strong communication skills both verbal and written.
‘Nice To Have’ Skills And Experience
• Experience with Monte-Carlo models and simulations
• Competence with Python for data manipulation and big data (eg. Pandas, numpy, and similar).
• A deep understanding of the ERCOT market dynamics and rules specific to ERCOT
• Experience with credit and risk management, risk modeling or post-trade analytics.
• Experience with BESS and renewables structuring, origination and/or trading
