CRH is seeking a Biodiversity and Sustainability Specialist in Atlanta, GA, to support its biodiversity and water management strategies. The role involves analyzing nature risks, conducting biodiversity impact assessments, and guiding operating companies in developing management plans. Candidates should have at least two years of relevant experience, strong academic credentials in ecology or sustainability, and proficiency in Office365. Job Summary
Reporting to the Senior Manager Biodiversity and Natural Resources, the Biodiversity and Sustainability Specialist will be responsible for supporting the implementation of CRH’s group wide strategic approach to biodiversity and operational water, utilizing external tools to analyze CRH’s nature risks and opportunities, and undertaking biodiversity net impact assessments using available external tools. The team plays a central role in supporting senior management, group functions and operating companies and works alongside and supports other sustainability related group functions of ESG & Capital Markets and the Corporate Sustainability Financial Reporting function. Other key objectives include guiding operating companies in the development and implementation of biodiversity management plans and water stewardship plans, net impact assessments and supporting the implementation of actions related to emerging nature topics.
Job Responsibilities
• Support the development and rollout of CRH’s strategic approaches, ambitions, key principles and metrics on nature-related topics
• Regularly analyze CRH’s footprint using the outputs of various risk assessment tools e.g IBAT, WRI Aqueduct, WWF risk filters
• Provide support and guidance to operating companies on the development and implementation of biodiversity and water management plans
• Undertake nature related net impact assessments
• Contribute to the Sustainable Business team in areas including the development of content for sustainability reporting and internal/external communications
• Build strong collaborative relationships with key stakeholders
• Prepare presentations and communication materials for internal and external stakeholders
Job Requirements
• 2 or more years’ postgraduate experience, preferably in a commercial or corporate, delivery-focused role
• Strong academic credentials in ecology, or sustainability/environmental management with a focus on biodiversity and or water
• High proficiency in Office365 with extensive experience with Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint and Word
• Strong knowledge of ecology and/or water management, nature policies and regulations
• Excellent research and analytical skills with the ability to gather and filter large amounts of information and data, and present findings concisely to a range of stakeholders
• Strong writing, design and communications skills, with the ability to explain complex issues simply
• Energetic and driven, but capable of fitting into a team environment; team player with first-rate inter-personal and communication skills and capabilities; ability to make both oral and written presentations to a variety of audiences
• Self-motivated with a high degree of initiative and be comfortable working in a challenging, fast-paced but rewarding environment
• Keen interest in current and future business trends in sustainability is advantageous
• Ability to multi-task and deliver within tight deadlines
