Harris Miller Miller & Hanson Inc. (HMMH) is a recognized leader in assessing, mitigating, and addressing the environmental impacts of transportation infrastructure on communities. We provide consulting services to government and private sector clients across aviation, highway, rail, transit, industrial, construction, military, recreational, and entertainment sectors.

We are seeking an Aviation Sustainability Consultant (Staff Consultant) with a focus on air quality for a hybrid position based in Burlington, MA or one of our other six office locations. A remote option is also available.

This role supports our expanding transportation planning and environmental practice, with a particular emphasis on aviation and air quality analysis. Since our founding in 1981, HMMH has provided expert assistance to over 200 airports worldwide, tackling complex environmental challenges. Our Aviation Environmental & Sustainability Group focuses on air quality, greenhouse gas emissions, carbon management, and regulatory compliance. We conduct noise and air quality studies, develop sustainability and climate action plans, mitigate environmental impacts, engage stakeholders, and ensure adherence to environmental standards.

Position Responsibilities:
• Conduct air quality analyses, model pollutant emissions, and develop emissions inventories and reduction pathways using tools such as AEDT, MOVES, or similar programs.
• Create greenhouse gas emissions inventories and contribute to carbon management plans, with a focus on aviation-related impacts.
• Prepare clear, concise technical reports and presentations on air quality and sustainability topics for non-technical audiences.
• Collaborate with project teams to deliver high-quality, technically sound documentation while meeting deadlines and client commitments.
• Engage with stakeholders to gather input on air quality goals and sustainability initiatives.
• Contribute to grant proposals for air quality improvement and climate resiliency projects.
• Research emerging air quality and sustainability practices in aviation to develop innovative solutions.
• Support projects by modeling air emissions for airport development, analyzing reduction strategies, participating in public workshops, and contributing to zero-carbon plans with an air quality focus.
• Communicate effectively with project team members and clients to address technical challenges and showcase HMMH’s capabilities.
• Other duties as assigned

Minimum Requirements:
• BS in environmental sciences, engineering, meteorology, data science, mathematics, biology, or a related technical field.
• 2-6 years of relevant experience in air quality analysis, environmental consulting, or sustainability.
• Proficiency in relevant technical skills (e.g., air quality modeling, carbon accounting, emissions analysis) and software (e.g., Excel, Python, SQL, Tableau, or ACERT).
• Strong quantitative and analytical skills with the ability to manager complex data sets.
• Strong writing skills, intellectual curiosity, and an interest in research.
• Collaborative team player capable of working independently with minimal oversight.
• Willingness to travel and engage with clients in person (travel may increase with experience).

Preferred Qualifications:
• Experience using GIS for air quality data acquisition, analysis, and reporting.
• Familiarity with aviation-specific tools such as AEDT, MOVES, or similar programs.
• Personal interest in aviation, transportation, or environmental sustainability.

Location:
• Burlington, MA
