Full Time Attorney: Mid - Level Litigation Associate - Environmental Law - San Francisco, CA / San Diego, CA / Palo Alto, CA / Los Angeles, CA
A leading law firm is seeking a skilled Mid-Level Litigation Associate with a focus in Environmental Law to join their team. This position is open to California-admitted attorneys, with the flexibility to work in one of the firm’s offices in Palo Alto, San Francisco, Los Angeles, or San Diego. The ideal candidate will have experience in environmental law and be comfortable handling both litigation and regulatory compliance matters.

Key Responsibilities:
• Client and Attorney Communication: The candidate will be expected to effectively communicate with clients, colleagues, and external parties, both verbally and in writing.
• Deliverables and Correspondence: They will be responsible for producing high-quality legal work, managing communications, and responding to client inquiries in a timely manner.
• Litigation and Compliance Work: The role involves handling environmental litigation, including defense of enforcement actions, regulatory compliance, and advising clients on regulations such as CERCLA, RCRA, and other critical environmental statutes.
• Deadline Management: The candidate must be able to manage competing priorities and deadlines in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
• Work Relationships: Building and maintaining positive relationships within the team and across departments will be key to the candidate’s success.
• Workplace Flexibility: The position requires a combination of physical and sedentary activities, including working at a computer for extended periods, participating in virtual meetings, and attending in-person discussions as needed.
Ideal Candidate:
• Education: The candidate must hold a JD (Juris Doctor) from an accredited law school.
• Bar Admission: The candidate must be admitted to practice law in California.
• Experience: A minimum of 3 years of relevant experience in environmental law, including environmental litigation, defense of enforcement actions, and regulatory compliance.
• Specialized Knowledge: Expertise in key environmental statutes and regulations such as CERCLA, RCRA, and California-specific environmental laws.
• Client Advisory: The ideal candidate will have a proven background advising clients on regulatory requirements, emerging environmental issues, liability exposure, and public relations concerns.
• Negotiation Skills: The candidate should have experience negotiating agreements related to compliance, cost recovery, and regulatory matters.
• Technical Understanding: Comfort with the technical aspects of environmental operations and remediation, including working alongside environmental consultants.
• Industry Experience: Preferred experience with industries such as heavy manufacturing, chemical production, defense, or maritime.
