Position Summary:
Drab to Fab is seeking a talented and passionate Associate Landscape Designer to join our growing team. In this role, you will play a key part in bringing our clients' visions for their outdoor spaces to life. You will collaborate closely with clients, project managers, and the installation team to create exceptional landscape designs.
Key Responsibilities:
• Client Communication:
• Conduct client meetings to gather project requirements, understand their vision, and address their concerns.
• Present design concepts to clients, effectively communicate design rationale, and incorporate client feedback.
• Design Development:
• Utilize computer-aided design software (e.g., AutoCAD, SketchUp, Revit) to create detailed landscape plans, including:
• Planting plans
• Hardscape layouts (patios, walkways, retaining walls)
• Irrigation plans
• Grading and drainage plans
• Research and select appropriate plant materials considering factors such as climate, soil conditions, and client preferences.
• Prepare detailed design presentations and construction documents.
• Project Management:
• Provide design support to the project management team throughout the construction phase.
• Assist with site visits and construction observation as needed.
• Business Development:
• Contribute to the development of new business opportunities and marketing materials.
Required Qualifications:
• Bachelor's degree in Landscape Architecture or a related field.
• 1-3 years of professional experience in landscape design.
• Proficiency in AutoCAD, SketchUp, or other relevant CAD software.
• Strong understanding of horticultural principles, including plant selection, plant care, and soil science.
• Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
• Passion for creating beautiful and functional outdoor spaces.
• This role necessitates a high degree of in-person collaboration and on-site presence. Therefore, 75% or more of the work will be conducted at our San Diego office or client locations. Candidates must be local to the San Diego area or prepared to relocate.
• Candidates must possess practical knowledge of San Diego's microclimates and demonstrate expertise in selecting plant material suited to the region's specific conditions.
Preferred Qualifications:
• Certification from the Association of Professional Landscape Designers (APLD)
• Experience with surveying and site analysis techniques
• Knowledge of construction methods and materials
• Experience with landscape construction software
