Environmental Managers with Nucor are members of the division leadership team and support Nucor's mission of safety, sustainability, and profitable operations at our steel mills. They are responsible for the division's environmental strategy with a focus on building relationships with operations/maintenance/administrative departments and identifying opportunities for continuous improvement.
Basic Job Functions:
Nucor Steel is seeking leaders for the position of Associate Environmental Manager. Responsibilities including, but not limited to:
Leadership role in promoting Nucor's mission ensuring that safety is instilled as a value with a strong focus on quality and environmental stewardship. Member of the Nucor Steel leadership team responsible for successfully leading long term profitable contributions to Nucor
Responsible for the division's environmental strategy with a focus on building relationships with operations/ maintenance/ administrative departments and continuous cost reduction. Support Nucor's strategy in growing enterprise sustainability initiatives
Solid understanding of environmental compliance, permitting and serve as a liaison for State and Federal environmental agencies
Oversees periodic review and revision of environmental management systems, standards, and procedures
Operational oversight of pollution control equipment (i.e. scrubbers, baghouses, etc.), wastewater treatment plants, and water systems
Advises leadership team on Environmental objectives, targets, and metrics
Support Political and Community Outreach
Safety is the most important part of all jobs within Nucor; therefore, candidates must be able to demonstrate the ability to initiate, lead, and uphold safety policies, practices, procedures, and housekeeping standards at all times.
Minimum Qualifications:
This position is a developmental position for future Environmental Managers. This individual must be pursuing a career path toward environmental management and be willing to relocate for future advancement positions within Nucor.
3+ years of environmental compliance experience
3+ years of environmental leadership experience including experience managing teams

Communication: The ability to give full attention to what others are saying and communicating information so that others will understand.
Safety: Safety is the most important part of all jobs within Nucor; therefore, candidates must be able to demonstrate the ability to initiate, lead, and uphold safety policies, practices, procedures, and housekeeping standards, at all times.
Environmental Acumen: Promotes environmental stewardship while maintaining compliance in all areas of the site though conformance with Nucor's environmental program. This includes reviewing and implementing environmental technical standards and policies.
Developing and Building Teams: Encouraging and building mutual trust, respect, and cooperation among team members as well as effectively managing and resolving conflict as needed.
Leadership Presence and Courage: Willingness and confidence to have immediate and direct conversations on critical alignment issues such as teamwork, building relationships, initiating and supporting change, and production process issues that arise. This includes the willingness to face adversity and conflict head on.
Preferences:
Previous steelmaking or heavy industry environmental compliance experience including permitting.
ISO 14001 or environmental management system experience
4-year degree in engineering or related environmental, safety or health field.
Registered environmental credentials and/or professional engineering license.
