Assistant or Associate Professor of Environmental Science

Defiance College is seeking a full-time, tenure-track Assistant or Associate Professor of Environmental Science, starting Fall 2025. The role involves directing a water quality testing lab and teaching environmental science courses. Candidates must have a Ph.D. or advanced ABD in relevant fields and prior teaching experience. Defiance College invites applications and nominations for a qualified candidate for a full-time tenure-track faculty position in Environmental Science at the rank of assistant or associate professor. The appointment will commence Fall 2025. This position is a 12-month appointment that includes directing Defiance College’s water quality testing lab and partnership with the City of Defiance, better known as Defiance Alliance. The laboratory boasts over $175,000 in facility updates and equipment purchases to assist in water quality research, and has been supported by a freshwater research technician since 2022.

Teaching responsibilities include courses at the introductory level including environmental science and in the applicant’s area of expertise. The successful candidate must be a committed educator with previous experience teaching in higher education, with evidence of effectiveness at the introductory level; the desire to develop an undergraduate research program; and an ability to be enthusiastic about working in a collaborative, interdisciplinary environment. Additional duties of faculty include: advising, committee work and service to the campus and community as appropriate.

A Ph.D. in environmental science, ecology, environmental biology, environmental chemistry or environmental geology with water quality research experience is required; advanced ABD will be considered. Appointment of rank commensurate with experience.
