Job Description

Tilhill Forestry is seeking an Assistant Wildlife Manager or Wildlife Manager in Jedburgh, UK. The role involves supporting wildlife management, particularly deer culling, and collaborating with teams on forestry management. Candidates should have qualifications in wildlife management and relevant experience, including a Deer Stalking Certificate and Firearms Certificate. We have an exciting opportunity for you to be a key member of our wildlife team based in Jedburgh, in the role of Wildlife Manager or Assistant Wildlife Manager depending on experience.

In this role you will support and assist the wildlife team with the implementation of optimum methods of crop protection and wildlife management, mainly consisting of deer culling and larder work. You will provide support to the ecology team conducting surveys and provide advice to our forestry management colleagues and clients on general wildlife matters relating to the forest environment. Lone working is also part of this role.

Key to your success in the role will be working with local teams, including forestry, business development, forest investment and harvesting to manage and grow a successful portfolio of forestry clients, delivering quality forest management and maximizing the quality of the client experience.

The success of the South Scotland team is down to the diversity of clients with which we engage, which includes estates, private forestry investors and investment funds, individual and family farms, charitable organisations, utility companies and local authorities.

About You:

With a professional interest in deer and wildlife management, you will be highly motivated, driven and have the ability to build and maintain strong working relationships. In addition, you’ll have:
• Relevant academic qualifications in wildlife management, ecology, environment or other land-based discipline.
• Deer Stalking Certificate Level 1 as a minimum.
• Firearms Certificate.
• Good working knowledge of best practice relating to wildlife conservation, deer control and environmental legislation.
• The ability to work well in multidisciplinary teams across a company.
• Strong commercial acumen and relevant operational experience.
• Good organisational and communication skills with the ability to prioritise workload demands.
• Full UK driving licence.
