Assistant Professor of Teaching in the area of Landscape Architecture and Environmental Design Sustainable Urban Design and Planning
Position Overview:
The salary range for this position is $102,200 - $125,400 (annual). 'Off-scale salaries' and other components of pay, i.e., a salary that is higher than the published system-wide salary at the designated rank and step, are offered when necessary to meet competitive conditions, qualifications, and experience.
The Department of Human Ecology in the College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences at the University of California, Davis is recruiting an Assistant Professor of Landscape Architecture and Environmental Design, teaching in the fields of Landscape Architecture and Sustainable Urban Design and Planning with a focus on professional and teaching experience in the areas of design, design communications, and sustainability. The candidate may also have an emphasis within the allied professions of Urban Planning, Urban Design, and Architecture in one or more of the following areas: equitable and inclusive climate adaptation planning at local, regional, and state scales; innovation and application of sustainable and regenerative urban design strategies; intersection of racial justice and sustainable planning; Traditional Ecological Knowledge (TEK); transdisciplinary design practices; publicly engaged scholarship; diverse and inclusive environmental design pedagogies; and/or affordable housing design and planning. The appointee will be expected to carry out high-level and innovative teaching in these areas and consistent with the broad goals of the department. The appointee may be required to teach up to six undergraduate courses per year in departmental undergraduate curricula as assigned by the department chair; assignment quantities are based on enrollment, scope (classroom, field, laboratory) and needs of the unit as well as career stage of the appointee. Sample courses include the following: LDA 3 - Introduction to Sustainable Environmental Design, LDA 21 - Environmental Design Representation, LDA 70 - Introduction to Spacemaking, LDA 142 - Capstone in Sustainable Environmental Design, LDA 172 or 152 - Upper division architecture or planning elective course, LDA 170 - Site Planning and Design Studio, LDA 171 - Urban Design and Planning Studio, LDA 182 - Advanced Landscape Architecture Studio, and on occasion some graduate level coursework, such as LDA 205 - Graduate Planning Studio New course development based on expertise and availability in the departmental teaching schedule may also be considered. In addition, the appointee will be expected to contribute to the department through student advising, curricular development, and committee participation.
The appointee will also be expected to demonstrate continued professional growth and contribute to the university mission through service activities. Examples of professional growth may involve some or all of the following professional contributions and attainments: (i) research and publication in the candidate's subject-matter discipline, (ii) pedagogical or curricular innovation, (iii) research and publication on pedagogy, (iv) professional activity in professional organizations, and (v) academic leadership within the University beyond normal service obligations.
This recruitment is conducted at the assistant rank. The resulting hire will be at the assistant rank, regardless of the proposed appointee's qualifications.

Full-time Equivalent (FTE)
This position will be recruited at the Assistant Professor of Teaching rank. This is an academic year (9-month) position with potential for security of employment (equivalent to tenure track).
Availability of Space and Resources
A faculty office and shared research space (in Hunt Hall) and other resources will be provided by the Department of Human Ecology on the UC Davis central campus.
Start-up funding will be provided based on the programmatic needs of the successful candidate.
