The University of British Columbia is seeking an Assistant Professor in Natural Resource Economics for its Food and Resource Economics Program. Candidates should have a Ph.D. in Economics or a related field, with expertise in environmental and natural resource economics. Applicants must have a Ph.D. (or be nearing completion) in Economics or a related discipline with demonstrated skills in environmental and natural resource economics related to land, food, forests, and/or bioenergy. The precise area of specialization is open. Examples of teaching and research programs could include but are not limited to the following: - Forests; - Agriculture; - Conservation and Biodiversity; - Coastal Ecosystems; - Other Renewable Resources. - Description of the Faculties_ The Faculty of Forestry ) is one of the largest of its kind globally. Its award-winning, multidisciplinary researchers explore social-ecological systems from many perspectives, including ecosystem functioning, applied resource management, bioeconomy and advanced bioproducts, conservation decision-making and policy, Indigenous knowledge, and values that human societies derive from nature. Our research continually strives to redefine and broaden our conception of forestry by addressing a wide variety of issues including public policy, biodiversity conservation, environmental justice, climate change mitigation, sustainable forest management and bioproducts development, to name a few. This position will be in the Department of Forest Resources Management within Forestry. The Faculty of Land and Food Systems (LFS) ) is a leader in studying, understanding and researching key issues in food supply, health and nutrition, and sustainability and climate change. We collaborate and innovate across disciplines and work closely with community and industry partners to create real-world solutions to local and global challenges. With the goal of balancing food systems and planetary health to create a better world, LFS develops change makers and leaders who improve global health through science, innovation and positive actions that recognize the critical connections between soil, plants, animals, humans and the environment.
