Job Description

Johns Hopkins University is seeking a junior faculty member for the position of Assistant Professor in the Economics of Sustainable Energy & Climate. Candidates should have expertise in energy and environmental economics or related fields. The role involves developing research programs and collaborating with faculty at the Ralph O'Connor Sustainable Energy Institute. A Ph.D. is required, and applications are due by November 30, 2024.
Position: Assistant Professor in the Economics of Sustainable Energy & Climate

General Description

The Department of Economics ((Use the "Apply for this Job" box below).) and the Ralph O'Connor Sustainable Energy Institute (ROSEI) () at Johns Hopkins University seek junior faculty candidates in the fields of energy and environmental economics as part of a cluster search related to sustainable energy and climate. Applicants from related fields, such as industrial organization, public economics, time series econometrics, environmental macroeconomics, or applied microeconomics, with applications to energy and the environment are welcomed.

The appointment will be in the Department of Economics. Successful candidates will join ROSEI, a fast-growing endowed university-wide institute with 17 core and 40 affiliated faculty (). This position provides an opportunity to develop a world-class program of research in sustainable energy as part of this new Institute, and collaborate with researchers at ROSEI's NSF Global Climate Center EPICS (),

DOE Center of Excellence ARROW (), and Net-Zero Industry Policy Lab ().

Qualifications

A Ph.D is required, but we will accept applications from doctoral students expected to fulfill Ph.D degree requirements by May 2025.

Applicants are encouraged to describe and present a job market paper on topics in energy and environmental economics related to sustainable energy and climate and to the research pillars at ROSEI ().

Applicants should also describe potential collaborative opportunities with colleagues in the Department of Economics, ROSEI, and Johns Hopkins University and to envision potential translational contributions of their scholarly work (). Applicants should send requests for recommendation letters from their Interfolio account to at least three references. Letters of reference are required for current PhD students; advanced applicants may provide the names of three references, who will be contacted only if the application moves forward.
