STOP Obesity Alliance is hiring an Assistant Professor in Sustainability for a 3-year, full-time, non-tenure track position at George Washington University in Renton, WA. Type of Position: 3-year full-time non-tenure track contract position with possibility of renewal. This position emphasizes teaching. Hire will have a 3:3 load with the following percentages for effort: 75 percent for teaching, 15 percent for service, and 10 percent for scholarship and research.

Description:

The George Washington University (GWU) seeks to hire a scholar with broad interests in sustainability from an interdisciplinary perspective, someone who conducts research and teaches in sustainability and will contribute to GWU’s transdisciplinary and policy-relevant research around sustainability. This position will begin as early as Fall 2024. Areas of expertise could include (but are not limited to) economic development, energy, communication, global environmental change, climate change, biodiversity, the food-energy-water nexus, public health, and the UN Sustainable Development Goals.
Specific Duties And Responsibilities

The successful candidate will have some experience in and be expected to teach undergraduate courses in sustainability or environmental studies, including an introductory course on sustainability, and will be able to develop new undergraduate courses in their area of expertise. The candidate will also be expected to teach upper-division courses such as a research methods course. The courses the candidate would teach should align with the Sustainability Minor Pillar Objectives: sustainable economies, sustainable ecosystems, sustainable communities and sustainable practices (https://sustainability.gwu.edu/sustainability-minor).

This candidate would contribute to an important teaching and research area in Sustainability at GWU (https://sustainability.gwu.edu/) and in the Sustainability Minor (https://sustainability.gwu.edu/sustainability-minor). Service contributions may include advising minors and involvement in campus community activities related to sustainability. Courses envisioned with this hire include:
Sustainability 1001 Introduction to Sustainability (a large 100-student lecture course) Sustainability 3096 Research in Sustainability Sustainability 3097 Culminating Experience in Sustainability (an experiential learning course) An upper-level sustainability course developed by the applicant An upper-level research methods course developed by the applicant.
Minimum Qualifications

Applicants must have a PhD or other terminal degree in a field related to sustainability by date of appointment. Applicants must have teaching experience and / or must be able to demonstrate their commitment to excellence in teaching.
