Tumbling Shoals Farm is hiring an Assistant Grower in Millers Creek, NC. The role involves harvesting, washing, and packing organic produce for a CSA and farmers markets. Candidates should be team players, physically capable, and able to communicate effectively. This is a full-time position in a dynamic farm environment with no degree required.

Tumbling Shoals Farm is a Certified Organic diversified vegetable and orchard located in western Wilkes County near the Blue Ridge Parkway. We sell at four farmers markets per week in Boone, Hickory, and Charlotte and through a 750 member CSA.

Job Description

Tumbling Shoals Farm is a fun, fast-paced work environment. Primary duties of the assistant grower will be harvesting, washing, and packing produce for our expanding CSA and 4 farmers markets. The assistant grower will also work as part of a team to help bring our new orchard into production and to grow, harvest, and sell top-quality, organic produce.

Qualifications:

-Team player (we don’t call it the “farmily” for nothing!)

-Understanding of body mechanics and efficiency

-Able to bend, crouch, squat, kneel, and stand for long periods of time

-Able to lift 30-40 lbs consistently, 50 lbs frequently

-Able to use hands for fast fine motor movements with plants, tools, rubber bands, etc.

-Able to effectively communicate—this is key to a small farm

-Able to recognize gaps in knowledge, skills, and experience and seeks feedback and assistance when appropriate.
