The University of South Dakota has an opening for an Assistant EHS Officer. This individual needs to be self-starting, and willing to learn all aspects of the university’s occupational and chemical safety guidance.

EHS is responsible to ensure guidance to local, federal, and USD safety and environmental guidance. This individual must learn a robust set of skills to work with other university departments to help keep university staff, faculty, students, and visitors safe. The EHS office is in the Churchill- Haines building on the Vermillion South Dakota campus. The office currently consists of the EHS Director. This is a 12-month, full-time, benefit-eligible position and is supervised by the Director of Environmental Health & Safety.

Preferred Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s Degree in Chemistry, Industrial Hygiene, Environmental Science, or another related field
• Previous experience in a related field or position
• Certifications, such as a Certified Hazardous Material Manager (CHMM), is a plus but not required for this position
