The College of Lake County seeks an Assistant Director for Capital, Sustainability, and Construction Management Services in Grayslake, IL. This role involves strategic planning and oversight of construction projects, ensuring alignment with sustainability goals and compliance with policies. The Assistant Director will supervise the Sustainability Manager and Project Managers, manage multiple projects, and foster a collaborative culture. About the position
The Assistant Director of Capital, Sustainability, and Construction Management Services plays a pivotal role in the strategic planning and long-term development of the college's capital outlay program. Reporting directly to the Director, this position is integral in ensuring that all construction projects align with the college's sustainability goals and comply with Board policies and project management best practices. The Assistant Director will supervise the Sustainability Manager and Project Managers, overseeing capital renewal, renovations, and new construction projects to ensure they are completed in a fiscally responsible manner. This role requires a comprehensive understanding of commercial construction, life safety systems, and building codes, as well as the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced environment. In addition to project oversight, the Assistant Director will assist in the development of a collaborative, student-focused culture within the college, ensuring that all projects serve the needs of faculty, staff, students, and visitors. The position involves significant interaction with top-level administration, providing day-to-day management and leadership for capital and surplus projects, and ensuring that all projects are completed within scope, schedule, and budget. The Assistant Director will also lead research and analysis to develop sustainability strategies that ensure environmentally friendly construction practices and compliance with government regulations. The role encompasses strategic leadership and project management, where the Assistant Director will implement the college's strategic plan, uphold policies and procedures, and foster community relations. This includes overseeing design presentations, maintaining relationships within the construction community, and acting as the owner's representative for managing college projects with the Capital Development Board. The Assistant Director will also be responsible for coaching and mentoring employees across various departments, promoting personal and professional development, and ensuring that sustainability initiatives are integrated into all college operations.
Responsibilities
• Assist and interact with top-level administration in strategic planning and long-range physical planning.

• Supervise the Sustainability Manager and Project Managers for capital renewal, renovations, and new construction.
,
• Ensure projects are completed in a fiscally responsible manner while complying with Board policies and college standards.
,
• Manage and oversee work sites for both new construction and remodel projects, coordinating site activities.
,
• Provide oversight for the development and implementation of the campus master plan.
,
• Lead research and analysis to develop the college's sustainability strategies.
,
• Provide management oversight to the Sustainability Manager to implement processes that reduce the college's carbon footprint.

• Collaborate with the Facilities department and Environmental Safety manager on construction activities across all campuses.
,
• Develop and promote the college's vision, mission, core values, and long-term plans.
,
• Supervise project managers, inspect field conditions, and ensure quality standards are met.
Requirements
• Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Architecture, Engineering, Construction Management, or related field.

• Minimum of 7 years of professional experience in commercial construction and project management.
,
• At least 2 years of supervisory experience overseeing project teams.
,
• Demonstrated experience in managing large, complex construction projects.
,
• Registered Architect, Professional Engineer, or Project Management Professional (PMP) Certification.
,
• Knowledge of Illinois Compiled Statutes and Community College Act related to procurement and construction.
,
• Ability to read blueprints across various disciplines (Civil, Structural, Architectural, etc.).

• Knowledge of Computer Aided Design (AutoCad 2020).
Nice-to-haves
• Master's degree in Architecture, Engineering, or Construction Management.

• Knowledge of building codes (IBC, NFPA, ADA, IECC, Illinois Plumbing Code).
,
• Demonstrated knowledge of construction project management software (e.g., Procore, Projectmates, ProjectTeam).
