Assistant, Aquatic & Wetland Restoration

The Credit Valley Conservation Authority is hiring a full-time Assistant for Aquatic & Wetland Restoration in Mississauga, ON, from May 5 to September 5, 2025. The role involves working with an aquatic rehabilitation crew on restoration projects and assisting with geomorphology assessments. SUMMARY OF FUNCTIONS

Reporting to the Technician 2, Aquatic and Wetland Restoration this position involves working as part of an aquatic rehabilitation crew that implements and monitors aquatic restoration projects across the Credit River watershed. This position will also assist the geomorphology team with a variety of assessments and monitoring.

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS
• Must be currently enrolled in or have completed a college/university program specializing in environmental science, natural resource management, restoration ecology, or a related environmental field.
• A working knowledge of stream and wetland restoration techniques, including planting and bioengineering, is required.
• Must possess a valid Class ‘G’ Driver’s License. The successful applicant will be required to provide a MTO Driver’s Abstract.
• Must be willing to work under adverse environmental conditions.
• Comfortability working with pesticides.
• Knowledge of Ontario fish species is an asset.
• Experience working in river systems in an asset.
• Experience using survey tools such as Trimble GPS unit and total station is an asset.
• A baseline understanding of geomorphic processes is an asset.
• Class 1 or 2 electrofishing certification is an asset.
• Standard first aid/CPR certification is an asset

SUMMARY OF MAJOR TASKS

Perform the following tasks under limited direction:
• Utilize basic construction techniques to build in-stream habitat structures, install sediment and erosion controls, and maintain exclusion fencing.
• Assist with restoration monitoring efforts that involve the assessment of biotic and abiotic features at a site, including stream geomorphology, fish and fish habitat, and water quality.
• Assist the watershed monitoring with electrofishing volunteer days.
• Use a wide variety of tools and field equipment, including drills, electrofishing units, hoop nets, level loggers, flow meters, trail cameras, and water quality probes.
• Assist with trail camera data management and other administrative tasks.
• Assist in geomorphic field data collection including surveying, monitoring, assessments, and pebble counts.
• Follow health and safety protocols.
