Job Description

Classification Title: Ast/Aso Prof

Classification Minimum Requirements: Candidates for this rank shall hold the highest degree appropriate to their field and demonstrate successful experience, verbal and written communication, interpersonal relationships, and procurement of extramural funding. Candidates must support the mission of the Land-Grant system and be committed to UF core values.

Duties and Responsibilities
• Engage in research and teaching related to forest hydrology.
• Develop an internationally recognized, externally funded research program focused on forest management influences on water quality and quantity across scales, integrating field observations with hydrologic or ecosystem modelling.
• Secure contract and grant funding actively and engage in Extension activities.
• Teach two courses per year: (1) required undergraduate course FNR4343 Forest Water Resources, and (2) a graduate‑level course in forest hydrology, hydric soils, wetland ecology or similar, chosen in coordination with the graduate program committee.
• Advising and mentoring undergraduate and graduate students; supervising research and creative work.
• Participate in curriculum revision and enhancement, seeking funding for the teaching program, publishing teaching‑related scholarship, producing learning tools, and engaging in professional development activities related to teaching and advising.
• Support the three IFAS mission areas—Research, Teaching, and Extension—regardless of the assignment split specified in the position description.

Background Information

The School of Forest, Fisheries, and Geomatics Sciences (SFFGS) offers bachelor’s, master’s, and Ph.D. degrees across Geomatics, Forest Resources and Conservation, Natural Resource Conservation, and Marine Sciences. SFFGS has 70 faculty members, 60 administrative and programmatic staff, 250 graduate students, and 350 undergraduate students. The school commits to work‑life balance and a welcoming environment for faculty and students.

Required Qualifications
• A doctorate (foreign equivalent acceptable) in forest hydrology or a closely related discipline.
• Demonstrated skills in verbal and written communication, interpersonal relationships, and procurement of extramural funding.
• Support of the Land‑Grant system mission and commitment to UF core values.

Preferred Qualifications

Postdoctoral experience is desirable.
