The Archaeology Crew Chief position at Environmental Research Group in Cheyenne, WY, starting April 2025, involves leading an archaeological crew in surveys and excavations, overseeing data collection and reporting. Job Title: Archaeology Crew Chief

Mission for position:

Under direct supervision, oversees and leads an archaeological crew during archaeological surveys and excavation projects. Oversees the collection, recording, and interpretation of archaeological data in the field, and coordinates laboratory processing and analysis activities. Assists in the preparation of final descriptive, analytical, and technical reports for publication, and contributes chapters to technical reports.

Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Oversees and coordinates an archaeological field crew in locating, collecting, recording and interpreting data for archaeology survey and excavation projects; conveys client needs and project objectives to assigned crew members

2. Collects and records archaeological data, artifacts, and materials for subsequent analysis and interpretation.

3. Provides functional guidance and leadership to technical staff in areas of specialty, such as faunal, lithic, and/or ceramic analysis.

4. Assists with writing and/or co-authoring archaeological survey, excavation, and analysis reports for publication.

5. Ensures the application of safe work practices by crew members during survey/excavation projects.

6. Ensures timely completion of fieldwork and project reports.

7. Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must have be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
• Education: Bachelors Degree in Archaeology or equivalent discipline.
• Experience: at leas 1 year of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified above.
• Permitted to conduct non-collection survey by the stage or agency with jurisdiction. Ideally the candidate would be permitted by the BLM-High Desert and/or High Plains District offices and USFS - Medicine Bow NF.
