Job Description

The State of Virginia seeks an Aquatic Education & Outreach Intern to promote aquatic conservation and safety through educational programs and community outreach. Responsibilities include developing materials, organizing events, conducting research, collaborating with stakeholders, and maintaining online resources. Develop and implement educational programs and materials to promote aquatic conservation and safety in Virginia communities.
Assist in planning and organizing outreach events and activities to engage the public in aquatic education.
Conduct research on current trends and best practices in aquatic education and outreach.
Collaborate with various stakeholders, including government agencies, non-profit organizations, and community groups, to promote and support aquatic conservation efforts.
Create and maintain relationships with local schools, youth groups, and other organizations to expand the reach of our educational programs.
Assist in the development of marketing and communication strategies to raise awareness of our aquatic education initiatives.
Support the training and coordination of volunteers to assist in outreach efforts.
Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of our education and outreach programs and make recommendations for improvements.
Stay up-to-date on relevant legislation and regulations related to aquatic conservation and safety to ensure our educational materials and programs are accurate and relevant.
Contribute to the development and maintenance of online resources and social media platforms related to aquatic education and outreach.
Assist in the preparation of reports and presentations to share the impact of our education and outreach efforts.
Maintain accurate records and documentation of all education and outreach activities.
Uphold and promote the values and mission of the Virginia Department of Environmental Quality in all interactions and activities.
Continuously seek opportunities for professional development in the field of environmental education and outreach.
Perform other duties as assigned by the Aquatic Education & Outreach Coordinator.
