As an apprentice, the incumbent will assist in inventory maintenance, including cycle counts and reconciling packing slips. They will participate in team efforts to construct, install, and maintain overhead and underground lines, transformers, and associated equipment. This includes tasks such as digging pole and anchor holes, setting and removing meters, and operating hydraulic controls for line vehicles and equipment. The apprentice will also assist in maintaining distribution and service poles, as well as performing field surveys and investigations for easements and street light layouts. In addition to technical skills, the apprentice will be required to maintain satisfactory progress in a state-approved Apprentice Line Maintainer training program and complete necessary reports in a timely manner. Responsibilities
• Assist in inventory maintenance, cycle counts, and reconciling packing slips.
,
• Participate in constructing, installing, and maintaining overhead and underground lines, transformers, and associated equipment.
,
• Dig pole and anchor holes and assist in setting, removing, loading, unloading, transporting, and framing poles.
,
• Operate hydraulic controls for line vehicles and equipment, including winch on derrick and knuckle boom crane.
,
• Assist in the maintenance of distribution and service poles and de-energized attachments.
,
• Contact customers regarding service complaints, temporary services, and line extensions.
,
• Perform field surveys and investigations for easements and street light layouts.
,
• Conduct grounds and building maintenance and assist in inspecting buildings and URD facilities.
,
• Perform minor vehicle maintenance and schedule routine and major vehicle repairs with the Lead Mechanic.
,
• Enroll in and complete the state-approved Apprentice Line Maintainer training program and equivalent company study requirements.
Requirements
• Basic knowledge of mechanical and electrical equipment maintenance principles including safety and regulatory requirements.

• Basic knowledge of hazardous material handling requirements and environmental regulations related to transmission and distribution facilities.

• Valid Vermont driver's license with a driving record suitable for insurability.

• Ability to complete Class A Commercial Driver's License after hire.

• Sound written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills, as well as math (algebra) and computer skills (MS Office Suite, CAD, GIS Design, Oracle Time Entry, etc.).

• Ability to advance to Utility Worker A within 3 years upon starting in Apprentice Step 3 role.

• Strong customer service skills to serve and satisfy internal and external customers.
