Amey is seeking an Air Quality and Climate Change Consultant in Southampton, UK, to join their growing team. The role involves supporting environmental projects, conducting air quality assessments, climate risk evaluations, and mentoring junior staff. This permanent position offers hybrid working options from various UK offices. Responsibilities include preparing reports, managing permit compliance, driving business development, and staying updated on climate science and regulations.

Join us in an exciting opportunity as an Air Quality & Climate Change Consultant. You will be part of our growing Air Quality and Climate team, which is at the forefront of addressing climate issues. This role is particularly appealing if you are looking to expand your expertise into the realm of climate-related projects, alongside working on a varied air quality portfolio that includes major permitting projects, Habitats Regulations Assessments, and DMRB assessments.

This is a permanent position with the option of hybrid working from any of our shared offices in London, Birmingham, Cardiff, Bristol, Manchester, or York.

Your Role:

In this position, you will play a pivotal role in supporting the delivery of impactful environmental projects. You will be nurtured in a friendly, supportive environment and receive one-on-one mentorship for your professional growth. Your key responsibilities will include:
• Assisting in the preparation and review of reports, designs, calculations, and documentation to ensure high-quality scheme deliverables within budget and timeline.
• Conducting qualitative and quantitative air quality assessments for roads and industrial permitting.
• Contributing to climate risk assessments and developing adaptation plans through collaboration with cross-functional teams.
• Supporting the writing of bids for air quality and climate tenders.
• Mentoring junior colleagues and promoting effective health and safety practices within the team.

Key Responsibilities:

Air Quality:
• Supporting qualitative and quantitative air quality assessments in accordance with EPUK / IAQM and DMRB guidelines.
• Building air quality dispersion models, checking traffic data, running EFTs, and conducting post-processing.
• Facilitating Environmental Permit applications by coordinating inputs from technical teams.
• Leading responses to regulatory inquiries and managing permit compliance throughout its lifecycle.

Climate:
• Performing thorough climate risk assessments for clients to identify vulnerabilities to climate-related threats.
• Utilizing climate projections and GIS tools to assess risks and forecast future climate impacts.
• Collaborating with various teams to develop innovative climate change solutions and resilience strategies aligned with industry standards.
• Recommending adaptation and mitigation measures to enhance client resilience to climate change.

Business Development:
• Driving growth by generating business opportunities in the Air Quality and Climate Change sectors.
• Identifying new prospects for climate resilience services and contributing to business development strategies.
• Assisting in the preparation of proposals and bids, highlighting the benefits of air quality and climate resilience consulting.

Continuous Improvement:
• Staying updated on the latest developments in climate science, policy, and technology to provide innovative solutions.
• Enhancing methodologies and tools used for climate risk and air quality assessments.
• Ensuring project compliance with relevant regulations.

What We Expect from You:
• A degree in science or engineering, with a preference for a relevant postgraduate qualification.
• Membership or progress towards Full Membership with IAQM and/or IEMA.
• Strong knowledge of UK and European environmental legislation, especially regarding Environmental Permitting.
• Experience with EIAs and industrial environmental permitting.
• Familiarity with climate data and projections, such as UKCP18.
• Proficiency in using ADMS Roads, ADMS Urban, GIS, and Excel.
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, verbal, and written communication skills.
• Strong project management ability to handle multiple concurrent projects.
• An entrepreneurial spirit and capability to foster relationships across diverse teams.
