Role:
We are looking for an experienced Agronomist / Permaculture Specialist to drive the on-ground implementation of regenerative agricultural practices on our mid-to large-scale farming project in Uganda. The role focuses on practical execution of sustainable farming techniques, supervision of daily farm operations to ensure successful outcomes. This is a field-intensive role to be based in Uganda, and the candidate must be willing to relocate full-time for this role .
Also, candidates must have prior field experience in managing or working on mid- to large-scale farming systems and a strong commitment to ecological and regenerative principles.
Key Responsibilities
1. Agronomic Planning & Crop Management
To plan and supervise daily farm operations to ensure successful outcomes
Develop seasonal and long-term cropping calendars suited to the Ugandan climate and soil profiles.
Guide seed selection, organic input planning, pest/disease management, and soil fertility improvement.
Monitor crop performance and guide interventions for yield optimization in line with ecological practices.
2. Field Execution & Supervision
Oversee and actively participate in daily farm operations including land preparation, planting, irrigation, mulching, intercropping, and harvesting.
Supervise and train farm workers to ensure effective execution of sustainable and regenerative agriculture practices on the farm.
Address operational challenges in the field promptly by providing hands-on support and guidance to ensure smooth farm activities.
3. Collaboration with teams
Collaborate closely with internal teams, including landscaping crews and project managers, to facilitate seamless project execution
Liaise with the stakeholders to gather input and ensure alignment with project goals.
Stay updated on the latest research, innovations, and best practices in permaculture and related fields.
4. Monitoring & Evaluation
Maintain accurate records of cropping plans, implementation stages, yields, and soil health indicators
Analyse data and feedback to make informed adjustments and improvements as needed.
Maintain detailed records documenting permaculture designs, implementation processes, and outcomes
Qualifications and Skills
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Agriculture, Agronomy, Environmental Science, Permaculture Design, or related field.
Minimum 5 years of field-based experience in implementing and managing sustainable or regenerative agriculture practices, preferably on mid-to large-scale farms. Prior experience working in Africa region is a plus.
Profound understanding of ecological principles, soil science, and sustainable farming practices.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with diverse stakeholders.
Strong organizational skills and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
Demonstrated project management abilities, including the ability to plan, organize, and prioritize tasks effectively
Candidates should be open to relocate for our Uganda based project to oversee and support permaculture initiatives.
