Power From Within Clean Energy Society is seeking a volunteer Agricultural Engineer to design green façades and living walls for their sustainable housing initiative. The role involves collaborating with a team to develop plant-based building systems for modular homes, focusing on climate-resilient agriculture. Candidates should have experience in vertical gardens and knowledge of Canadian growing conditions. The position requires a commitment of about 5 hours per week and is remote-friendly.
Volunteer Opportunity: Agricultural Engineer – Green Façades & Living Walls

Power From Within Clean Energy Society (PFWCES)

Your Role

Help design and implement plant-based building systems for our 4Ever Homes—modular, energy-efficient homes that integrate urban agriculture directly into the structure.

You’ll work alongside architects, engineers, and sustainability experts to:
• Develop and refine concepts for green façades, edible walls, and living exterior systems
• Select plant species suitable for year-round, low-maintenance integration in Canadian climates
• Optimize systems for water use, irrigation, soil support, and growth efficiency
• Provide technical input on vertical and façade agriculture for both residential and community structures

Skills & Experience Needed
• Degree or diploma in Agricultural Engineering, Horticulture, or related field
• Experience designing or implementing green façades, living walls, or vertical gardens
• Knowledge of plant selection, irrigation systems, and structural integration
• Familiarity with cold-climate agriculture and Canadian growing conditions (preferred)
• Team-oriented, proactive, and able to meet project deadlines
• Based in Canada or able to work with Canadian environmental parameters

Time Commitment
• Flexible: ~1 hour per day or 5 hours per week, on your own schedule
• Weekly tasks or deliverables must be completed to support the team’s progress
