Job Description

Federation University Australia seeks an Aboriginal Student Success Officer to support Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students in vocational education. The role involves advocacy, event promotion, and linking students to support services. This full-time/part-time position is based at the Aboriginal Education Centre in Ballarat, VIC, and is open only to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander applicants. The closing date for applications is 23 March 2025.
Support Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students and community in vocational education and training, through supporting their academia and social wellbeing.
• Aboriginal Education Centre – SMB Campus
• Full-time and/or part-time, continuing appointment
• HEW 6 - $88,421 p.a. pro-rata plus up to 17% superannuation

About the role

Working directly with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students and community you will provide support and advice on student advocacy, organising and promoting events for significant Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander events, providing initial advice to students and referring to other University services and/or external services where required.

You will:
• support, advise and link Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students to the most appropriate support services;
• develop strategies and processes which support the academic, physical, intellectual, social, spiritual, cultural needs, mental health and general wellbeing of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students.
• maintain confidential student case notes, records and communication logs; and
• contribute to a smooth student enrolment process.

About you

You will have the ability to take initiative, make sound decisions, problem solve and make judgment on the appropriate referral services. You will have demonstrated interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to establish collaborative and effective relationships with a wide range of people at all levels.

You will possess:
• knowledge and an in depth understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities and cultures,
• skills and experience in working with a diverse and broad range of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students; and
• experience in working in a student/community engagement and/or support role.
