About the position

The AGFC Conservation Program Biologist I is responsible for the management, protection, and enhancement of fish, wildlife, and habitats on public lands and waters within a designated region. This role involves overseeing various wildlife management activities, coordinating biological surveys, and leading projects aimed at conservation efforts. The position requires collaboration with agency partners and may involve supervisory responsibilities in the absence of the Regional Supervisor.

Responsibilities
• Assist program coordinators and habitat biologists in planning and implementing projects on wildlife management areas.

• Participate in developing wildlife management area recommendations and long-term conservation plans.

• Coordinate and lead biological surveys and studies to assess wildlife populations and environmental impacts.

• Summarize data and prepare reports for management and regulatory purposes.

• Communicate with the Regional Supervisor regarding budgets, contracts, and personnel supervision.
,
• Oversee project operational duties and supervise employees in the absence of the Regional Supervisor.

• Assist with budget development and submit recommendations to the Regional Supervisor.

• Draft public land management plans and oversee their implementation.

• Conduct public relations work with various agencies and organizations.

• Lead nuisance wildlife capture and relocation efforts.

Requirements
• A bachelor's degree in wildlife biology, conservation biology, natural resources, environmental science, or a related field plus four years of experience in a related field and two years of demonstrated leadership in wildlife management activities.

• A master's degree in wildlife biology, conservation biology, natural resources, environmental science, or a related field plus three years of experience in a related field and two years of demonstrated leadership in wildlife management activities.

• Knowledge of biology, ecology, and environmental sciences principles.
,
• Knowledge of wildlife management principles and techniques.
,
• Ability to plan, organize, and oversee the work of subordinates.
,
• Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.

Nice-to-haves
• A bachelor's degree in biology, fisheries management, or a related field is preferred.

• A master's degree in biology, ecology, or fisheries management is preferred.

• Knowledge of fish population dynamics and statistical analysis.

• Experience in current fish sampling techniques.
