Portland General Electric is seeking an Environmental Science Specialist to join their Hydro Environmental team in Estacada, OR. The role involves leading water quality compliance initiatives, collaborating on environmental assessments, and developing solutions for regulatory challenges. Summary

We are looking for a water quality specialist to join our Hydro Environmental team. Our team is comprised of water quality specialists, fish and wildlife biologists and technicians, recreation specialists, and permitting and licensing specialists. This team implements the environmental requirements of the FERC licenses at hydroelectric facilities on the Clackamas, Willamette, and Deschutes rivers.

This is an onsite position based at our Clackamas Hydro location in Estacada, OR. The position will lead implementation of temperature and mercury TMDLs,100J NPDES permits, and 401 water quality certification programs for the Clackamas and Willamette Hydro Projects. As part of the 401 water quality certification the position will be responsible for total dissolved gas, dissolved oxygen, and cyanoHabs public health and safety monitoring plans. The position will also require travel to assist with water quality monitoring at the Pelton Round Butte Project in Madras, OR 1-2 times per month.

As a key player in our Environmental Science and Compliance team, you'll:

Lead cutting-edge research and environmental assessments for exciting PGE projects

Develop creative solutions to manage environmental risks and ensure regulatory compliance

Collaborate with diverse teams of experts to solve complex environmental challenges

Contribute your expertise in wildlife biology, fisheries, archaeology, ecology, or air/water quality

Shape PGE's environmental training programs to meet and exceed industry standards

The Ideal Candidate:
• Has 5+ years of experience in environmental science with a bachelor's degree (Master's preferred)
• Possesses in-depth knowledge of environmental regulations and best practices
• Thrives in a dynamic environment, taking on new perspectives to tackle unique problems
• Demonstrates strong leadership skills, guiding less experienced colleagues
• Excels at project coordination, stakeholder management, and conflict resolution
• Experience with water quality compliance.
• Familiar with temperature and mercury TMDLs, NDPES permits (100-J and 300-J), and 401 certificate implementation and development.

Physical Capabilities
• Driving/travel/commute: Occasional overnight travel (one to two times a month or less)
• Working long days in the field.
• Lifting/pushing/pulling: Up to 50 lbs.
• Carrying: Up to 50 lbs.
• Unstable surfaces requiring balance
• Elevated areas (i.e., catwalks, roofs and high buildings)
• Confined spaces
• Walking distances and surfaces (long distances and over rough, uneven or rocky surfaces)
• Stairs (over 10 steps)
• Ladders (over 10 rungs)

Compensation Range:

$89,175.00 - $148,625.00

Actual total compensation, including a performance based incentive bonus, is commensurate with experience, skills, qualifications, education, training, and internal equity. While we anticipate the selected candidate for this position will fall towards the middle or entry point of the compensation range, the decision will be made on a case-by-case basis.
