Job Description
Bila Solar, Inc. is seeking a 2nd Shift Solar Equipment Engineer in Indianapolis, IN. The role involves maintaining and optimizing solar manufacturing equipment, performing preventive maintenance, troubleshooting issues, and training junior technicians. Candidates should have a technical degree or equivalent experience, with at least 3 years in high-speed manufacturing. The position focuses on ensuring operational efficiency and safety in solar production.
Shift Hours: Monday – Thursday, 5:00pm – 3:30am
Position Summary
Join our dynamic manufacturing team as a Solar Equipment Engineer! In this crucial role, you'll ensure the seamless operation of our machinery and equipment by performing preventive maintenance, optimizing throughput, troubleshooting issues, and repairing and upgrading equipment. Your expertise will help maintain the efficiency, safety, and reliability of our manufacturing processes, contributing significantly to our overall productivity and success.

Led by highly-experienced industry veterans, we’re among the first-to-market to offer US-made solar cells in a 550w dual-glass module that can deliver exceptional durability and top-tier performance. But, we’re not stopping there. Our facility also produces an innovative, ultralight, 17-pound 520w module, designed for commercial rooftops and low-load-bearing structures, bringing solar to places traditional panels can’t reach.
Key Responsibilities:
• Lead by example in upholding all company safety protocols
• Analyze, inspect, maintain, and repair all solar-module manufacturing equipment in facility
• Perform Root Cause Analysis, devise solutions, implement improvements, and establish effective prevention measures for problems that arise with solar equipment
• Continuously monitor and improve the Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE) and other KPIs as directed
• Maintain all solar module manufacturing equipment and keep meticulous records of equipment performance, equipment/part failures, machine downtime, and solutions/corrective actions to problems to create a detailed and accessible database of Lessons Learned
• Purchase spare/replacement parts for all equipment, track purchase requests, maintain spare part safety stock, etc.
• Participate in planning, installation, and commissioning of new solar manufacturing equipment, as well as determining the appropriate facilities requirements (power/air/water/etc).
• Develop and manage the Preventive Maintenance Program, coordinating with the Operations Team.
• Guide, train, and coach junior equipment technicians in proper machine maintenance and troubleshooting
• Coordinate activities with other shift personnel, as needed
• Cooperate and work with cross-functional departments as needed
Skills:
• Proficient in MS Office software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.)
• Understand and read IEC prints.
• Must have experience with ABB robotics
• Strong experience with automated solar-module manufacturing equipment (e.g., welding machines, laminators, stringers, busbar machines, cutting machines, etc.)
• Strong sense of responsibility and excellent communication and teamwork abilities
• Excellent creative problem-solving abilities
• Ability to mentor / train Equipment Technicians and Engineers on staff.
Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in a technical or related field or equivalent work experience
Experience: 3+ years of experience in equipment maintenance in high-speed manufacturing environment
