Department Information
Housing and Residence Life is passionate about the Georgia Tech residential student experience. With 97% of all first-year students choosing to live on campus, we create spaces and opportunities for Yellow Jackets to grow and connect from their first day of college through their graduate studies. We are proud to support our students¿ personal development and academic endeavors while providing a safe and comfortable living environment.
Our department is a large and complex organization supporting over 8,700 on-campus residents among 49 traditional halls, suites, and apartments, some of which were constructed for the 1996 Summer Olympics. Our team of 200+ professional staff and 300+ student staff from six departments supports residents directly and indirectly with their unique talents. We are housed within the Student Engagement and Well-Being division, which includes many student service offices.

Job Summary
Install, connect, test, maintain, and repair campus electrical distribution system (primary and secondary voltage at the intermediate (Journeyman/Master) skill level. Includes building service, switchgear, generators, interior and exterior PLC lighting, and fire alarms. May be required to coordinate the work of contractor personnel as well as provide work direction regarding electrical systems to maintenance personnel and others. When working in a multi-craft environment, may be directed to assist others in non-electrically related duties.
• This position will interact consistently with coworkers, building contacts, D&C staff, vendors, contractors, environmental health and safety personnel, and utility providers.
• This position typically advises and counsels maintenance and Electrician I personnel.
• This position will supervise NA.
Responsibilities
Job Duty 1 -
Perform preventive electrical maintenance to include operation, inspection, cleaning, maintaining and repairing, surveying, and documenting components of the campus electrical distribution system. The system includes switchyards, manholes, and transformer vaults (for both primary and secondary voltages).
Job Duty 2 -
Install, maintain, repair, and operate building electrical systems and components of campus high-voltage electrical distribution system.
Job Duty 3 -
Coordinate activities with engineers, contractors, and state agencies. Provide input related to campus electrical power outages.
Job Duty 4 -
Obtain necessary materials and supplies, which may include direct purchases from vendors if authorized.
Job Duty 5 -
Observe campus and industry safety procedures.
Job Duty 6 -
Perform non-electrical duties as directed within the multi-craft work environment.
Job Duty 7 -
Perform other duties as assigned
Educational Requirements
Required Qualifications
High school diploma, GED Certificate, or Vocational School Diploma
Required Experience
Six to eight years of job-related experience
Other Required Qualifications
Degree or 2 years of college course work in electrical
Preferred Qualifications
Preferred Educational Qualifications
Technical Diploma, Associate's Degree, or two years of college coursework in the electrical field
Additional Preferred Qualifications
Unrestricted State of Georgia Electrical License: Those associated with obtaining an unrestricted State of Georgia Electrical License
Proposed Salary
Pay Range: $27.32-$37.15/hr.
Skills
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
This job requires a working knowledge of electrical systems at the intermediate level, National Electrical Code, building support/maintenance, electronics, general construction, utilities, equipment installation, safety procedures, mathematics, reading prints, drawings and schematics, operation of machine tools, hand/power tools, and hydraulic/pneumatic equipment.
