The Department of Environmental Science and Policy at the University of California, Davis invites applications for lecturer positions to teach courses during the 2025-2026 academic year. Compensation and the duration of the appointment will depend on the number of courses assigned and the number of units per course.
Position Description:
To instruct ENV 203P (1 unit) in the Fall ENV 203A (4 units) in Winter and ENV 203B (4 units) Spring quarter each year. The Policy Clinic is a collaborative, hands-on, student-driven, project development experience. Students work in small teams with an external organization on an environmental policy or management related topic.
The Instructor will work with the Director to review and select projects and match students to projects based on their skills and interests. The instructor will oversee the teams of students, provide feedback and guidance as they analyze an environmental policy problem from scientific, legal, and economic perspectives. The Instructor will help student groups develop a comprehensive analysis, plan, best practices guide, policy options or other deliverable to the client. They will assist project teams in creating a scope of work and developing relationships and communication channels with the client. The Instructor will submit a written report to the program’s Comprehensive Exam Committee evaluating each group at the end of the second quarter.
APPOINTMENT DATE: Assignments vary according to type of course and percentage of appointment. Service periods are:
Fall Quarter 2025: September 22, 2025– December 12, 2025
Winter Quarter 2026: January 2, 2026 – March 20, 2026
Spring Quarter 2026: March 26, 2026 – June 11, 2026
RESPONSIBILITIES: Teach one or more undergraduate or graduate courses in Environmental Science and Policy. Candidates may be asked to teach one to two courses for the year depending on programmatic need and candidate's availability.
QUALIFICATIONS: Appropriate professional degree, e.g. Doctorate; or Master's degree and prior professional success and recognition for excellence; or Thirty (30) units of graduate coursework and prior professional success and recognition for excellence; a demonstrated teaching ability; a developing record of scholarly or professional achievement in an area of expertise related to the subject area of the course.
GENERAL INFORMATION: Temporary Lecturers are selected to fill specialized positions which require professional, as well as academic, expertise. Temporary Lecturers may be selected to fill teaching needs occasioned by leave of regular faculty or to enhance and compliment the strengths of faculty teaching related courses. Therefore, in any given year, open positions and requirements for individuals to fill them will vary.
SALARY: Commensurate with qualifications, education and experience.
